I'm a religious New York Times crossword puzzler. After completing the puzzle, I love to read the news and notes to learn about the constructor of the puzzle, which is an impressive form of art. When I finished the Saturday puzzle, there was a clue for 1A (first clue in the entire puzzle) that said, "Turnovers in a football field, perhaps?" I wasn't able to solve it for quite a while, taking many of the down clues to fill it in. Finally, the answer came up as 'Cartwheels'. I was a bit confused, but it fit. When I read through the notes, I was more than a little surprised to see a reference in the NY Times for Hagen Meservy and OHIO football. Not sure if this is blocked by the paywall or not, but here's the link to the notes, paying homage to the great playcall from OHIO where Hagen did a cartwheel out wide to distract the defense:

I see Hagen about every week at Yogi's Frantz Road sports bar in Columbus, where he's a manager. I'm sure he'll get a kick out of this. BTW, there's several Bobcats working there, and more than a couple customers who are Bobcats.

thankfully there are student-athletes that work their butts off during 2 -a -days and don the Green and White rather than philosophize about b.s. GO BOBCATS!

This post perfectly captures the baffling level of outrage at nothing at all that defines so many posters on BA.

;) . I am just ready for some football

Hagen got a kick out of this.
