I watched Joey against Nelsonville the other night. He does look like a D1 college quarterback in my uneducated opinion, but the lack of competition is concerning. Most of the schools Athens plays are very very weak.

This needs to be said IMO...

After watching the Athens/Warren game tonight, I'm not so sure I want Burrows as a QB. The more I see him, the more I realize that his body language and leadership skills are atrocious. He lacked any energy or competitive spirit it seemed...just acted like he'd rather be somewhere else. This is not unusual for him, and I've gotten to several Athens games this year. He may have the skills to be a D1 quarterback, but I just don't think he'll be able to handle the mental part of the game. Some legitimate question marks there if you ask me. It's like he's taken some cues from TT in regards to pouting.

No, not funny at all. I'm sure some of the schools run the read and some even rely on it. He also has offers from schools such as BC, WVA and East Carolina which runs more wide open (OC came from Texas Tech). I would guess the schools all see a young man who is a good athlete and solid young man that can help them win games.

My point, and I stick to it, is he is better suited for a system that doesn't rely on the read. He is not big enough (190) to take the constant hits, nor quick enough to avoid them. And pointing to what he does on Friday nights against Jackson (where he is the best athlete on the field), doesn't change that. Good arm, good legs....dual threat yes, true read option no. (IN NO WAY am I comparing him to these players - for ILLUSTRATION purposes only - think Rogers' s style versus RG 3's)

As you are aware, I contend that he is a low to mid-level BCS recruit. And the offers reflect that - and that's okay. In fact, that is great! He may get a home state offer from OSU, but for the most part, the high-end BCS teams (GA, FSU, Bama, Mich. etc.) have their QBs slotted for the class of 2015. He will continue to get "interest" from them, but that is for THEIR insurance - in case early next season (before LOI are signed), a recruit blows out a knee, gets arrested, or decides he wants to play near granddad, the school can call him up and say, "you know that slot that may open up..."

NC State, BC, Iowa St., WVA, TN - that is a hell of a list and more will be added to it over the next 120 days. He should be proud, as should fans and residence of Athens. My only advice to him is "don't be an insurance policy. Go somewhere that wants you, not a replacement." The recruiters are defining his playing field. And it is a hell of a field.

My new neighbor three doors over is getting "interest" as an o-lineman from UNC, State, etc. - but his level of offers are coming from App St., East Carolina, perhaps a Wake or VA. That's GOOD!. His dad and I were talking the other day. He'll be doing the camps this summer and can still hold out for that "wish school" (UNC for him), but he needs to start taking a look at the schools (academically), and systems (he is not quick enough to block in read option) and think about what makes since for him. That is not a slight to the young man - just the way it is. The same is true for Joey.

I'm sorry I don't genuflect every time you mention Joey's name, nor gush "BC! - look out. Every ACC school will follow" - it is not a slight so you don't need to defend him. He's a good kid. I wish him the best. Personally, it sounds like a WVA or NC State is a good fit for him - uptempo air games - can use legs to extend plays. That's my bet. He can best compete against the other QBs in that type of system.

They can pm me

Three others got invites last night, but not Burrow. 15 spots now filled. Could be one of the last three "wildcards" but reports are that he is not in the running. nice socks....

Interesting. I knew Beck used to coach wide receivers at Kansas, and running backs for Nebraska, but I didn't realize he had switched to QB's. Apparently he made the switch a couple years ago, and was doing that in addition to being the offensive coordinator.

Glad the family never took your advice.

I wish he had. NC State has fallen on hard times and sure could have used him. i’m sure fsu, michigan, florida and other schools (who evaluate talent for a living) also wish they had pursued him. you can bet LSU would have loved him from the beginning as well. but all’s well that ends well. Always wished him the best. still do.

LOL, all those schools did pursue him as well.

LOL - " Pursue" is so vague - "offer" is more appropriate in identifying mutual interest. Stunning that Vandy and Kentucky were the only SEC schools to offer.

Again, so many programs missed on him. They can get too blinded by level of competition.

Ahhh - the declaration of fake news including out of Baton Rouge. Fine - please show sites that have GA, ALA, Michigan and others offering Joey back in HS. Appreciate it. Or we can all just admit that he was not overly offered by these and other schools out of HS and damn did he ever proved them wrong, It's OK Billy - the fault is on the schools, not him.

Burrows ranking will...

Burrows is...

Andrew Luck. I ain't saying he's a #1 NFL pick, but his game is Luck-ish.

I don't see many comparing him to Andrew Luck, but did you and Jim Burrow put money down on him being #1 years ago?

$50 at 150:1 at Caesars already cashed my ticket.

i’ve heard about this new policy where Caesars pays off bets before they happen. I understand they are already cashing tickets for those that picked the Lakers to win it all as well.

No - he said he bet on him being the #1 pick in the draft - so full payout is not made until after the draft (obviously). A winning bet, but unable to cash the ticket until the pick is actually announced.

Heisman bet, sorry if I misunderstood your statement.
