Ohio rolls to exhibition win over Capital

Schmock leads Bobcats with 17 points

ATHENS – Ohio took care of business in opening its season with a 92-66 victory against Capital in an exhibition Saturday at The Convo.

The Bobcats went on an early 18-0 run to build a 50-26 halftime lead and were able to share minutes throughout the game.

University of Findlay transfer point guard Tommy Schmock led the way with 17 points in 17 minutes, with Ben Vander Plas adding 12 points, five rebounds and four assists in a team-high 23 minutes. Miles Brown scored 11 points, and Jason Carter, in his return to the Bobcats, reached double figures with 10 points.

With Dwight Wilson expected to miss much of the season because of a knee injury and Lunden McDay recovering from an injury, the starters were Vander Plas, Brown, Carter, Mark Sears and Ben Roderick. All of them scored at least seven points. Freshman IJ Ezuma also was out because of an illness.

Ohio shot 63.3% or the game, including 38.9% (7 of 18) on 3-pointers.

Ryan Suever paced the Comets with 12 points.

The Bobcats open the regular season by hosting Belmont at 7 p.m. Tuesday at The Convo.
