From the latest BOT agenda and scheduled for FY24-FY30. I would assume basketball practice facility at that dollar amount and the fact The Convo already has recent interior upgrades. It wasn't listed as a renovation either in the agenda only as "The Convocation Center -15.3 million"

Also a 2 million dollar paint & seal job planned for Peden.

No mention of a new aquatic center however.

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Miami @ Peden front of 25,086

If the Convo investment turns out to be what was described to me several weeks ago, this is the first of 3-4 similar size infusions that are going to create something that is very, very cool from athletics, academics, image and institutional vision perspectives.

It would be nice to see the outer walkway at least power washed every once in a while . It has been gaudy for years.

Not to mention patching holes in the concrete.

There's a major capital campaign underway. They won't announce it until it's within 10-15% of its goal.

I don't know how much this would cost or how much people would care or how much, if any, it would help basketball recruiting or get other kids that come to games interested in OU but IMO the circular corridor is vast compared to similar basketball programs but also very drab. It needs stuff like, I don't know it doesn't really matter, but how about just as a for instance, a series of flags with the logo history hanging from above in one section. The interior wall is white painted cinderblock in most cases. Imagine a mural with Jason Preston's story and another with the most successful teams in OUr history. I'm a technical guy. What sort of stuff this should be is not my forte. But even I know that it seems lacking even to someone like myself.

OUCountry and I talk about this all time. The Convo space itself is awesome they just need to utilize it to it's full potential. Of course these things all cost money, but a coat of paint and a few banners/posters here and there would help immensely.

Curious if they're at all worried about the declining enrollment figures nationwide while also having this financial windfall? I don't know what the OU enrollment numbers look like exactly, but I'd have to think they're a little concerned about where they're thinking the best use of money is. Would love to know more what the academia side thinks. They're usually the first in line to say no to any capital improvements on the athletic side.

I googled this and saw nothing. Where are you getting the 15.3M number? It may be more like 1.5M, but maybe you were out with Huggins.

Forget putting money into facilities other than regular fix ups.

$12 million divided by 12 stars for each of the next 4-5 years and give the women 3 million of it for their players.

That's how to spend $15.3

You and I might not be writing big checks, but there are some OHIO alumni who are. Stay tuned...

Turns out the new Convo monies are for rehab purposes -- primarily to the residence hall areas.

Reportedly there is a request/proposal in the upcoming capital campaign for a large investment in the project I alluded to earlier, which would include a sizeable new building/addition to the front of the Convo for combined academic (digital media creation)/athletic (practice courts)/student recruitment (visitor's center) purposes. I'm guessing this project will proceed fairly quickly if funding is secured.

The concourse looks stuck back in the day. I'm as nostalgic as anybody but to get more students in the building for games, maybe it would help to not have the place look the same as when their parents (or grandparents) were students.

Interior of similar age gyms...

THIS! horrible decision a long time ago to make the walls around the floor look like a public restroom.

They are functional though as they are acoustic block, hence the holes.

And I figured the bulk of this money will go to dorms. They have never had a real upgrade and their is still millions to be done on the Super structure of the building.
