I just love the changing win probability in the upper right. Think we'll ever see that on an in-arena scoreboard?

That was some solid play-by-play with that. Just sounded like I was listening to a throwback game on the radio again......

Seriously some of the best play-by-play I've heard in a long, long time. Tremendous!!

What a comeback. But I don't need a win probability visual to enjoy it, and I don't find it adds anything for me. I guess I'm old school, I love actual game stats of players and teams but not the Vegas-oriented algorithms. This game in particular just shows that the players get to decide the games on the floor.

Does seem like an odd graphic to show on the screen.

That's ESPN for you. They have all these stats that they don't know what to do with.

ESPN has a win probability tracker on GameCast for all of their games (at least the ones I have ever followed).

I would be curious to see the math that goes into it as there are times when a highly ranked team can be losing by double digits to an unranked team, and the highly ranked team still has a 75% + chance of winning. Granted said highly ranked team has stormed back to win by double digits many times so there is a precedent there.

Clemson had I believe a 90-something percent chance of winning their game against NC State on Saturday-only to give up an 8-0 run with something like 16 seconds left in the game. Lost by 2 on a last second 3 pointer.

Will never forget that crazy comeback Duke made almost 20 years ago to steal a win against Maryland. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9_pPqWfI84

We measure our children's heights on the door frame so that we can marvel at how they've grown.

If you change the way you think, you can see statistics are not a cold, hard fact out to ruin your fun, but a measuring stick for how wild, wacky and wonderful this world can be.

But you've got to be able to wonder, you've got to be able to question everything you think you know to be able to see that.

Or you can just scoff and stay where you are because the alternative is hard.

Our resident philosopher and stand-up comedian has penned some sage words above.

[P.S. We used to measure our children's heights on a wall in their respective rooms. We are now in a different house, but I still have photos of those walls markings. Very precious!]

As I noted, I like statistics. I would much prefer to look at a box score to see how a game turned out than to read a recap, although I enjoy both. But I don't consider "win probability" to be a statistic. I wouldn't see any reason to go back to the play-by-play to check on what the win probability said at any particular point in the game. At 0:00 win probability means nothing. How many "statistics" mean nothing at the end of the game?
