Swishero, it went through!
Gonnella, it's swella, fella!

My tribute to Red Rush, the famed Loyola broadcaster of yesteryear.
I know he's looking down and smiling today.

Here's hoping they make it to the Final Four.

It would be neat to get them back on the OHIO schedule. Make it happen, Saul and Jim!

EDIT: To reflect Final Four status.

I've been thinking of this song since the Ramblers won their first game to start the run. Truly one of my favorite tracks of all time. Since it led me down the YouTube worm hole, here are a few versions of it for fun:

John Paul Jones - bass track only:

The original studio version:

Was watching this last video. Is that a lyric teleprompter at the 1:24 mark?

Back in the '60s when Loyola was a power and I was an OHIO student, during one season we had a home and home with the Ramblers. Fun memories.

I've been thinking lately, what with all the difficulty teams like Ohio are having putting together a strong non-conference schedule, why not play other teams not in the MAC but in the same boat home and home in the same season? We did that recently with Marshall and I always loved the ND-UCLA home-and-home series back in the 1970s/80s. Mike goes back a little further with the Ohio-Loyola example from the 1960s and I'm sure OCF could probably recite similar examples from the first half of that century.

Maybe there's a logical reason why it is not feasible today, but why not consider it?

During the 1963-64 season when Ohio went to the Elite 8, during the regular season it had a home and home with Louisville which it split - and then beat the Cards a second time in the NCAA tourney.

It still happens (ETSU and NKU had a home-and-home this year). But I think as conferences got larger (and in ND's case they got into a conference) schools wanted a little more variance in their non-con schedule. Ohio could significantly boost its schedule strength with regional, non P5 opponents.

These are all doable Top 100 opponents (with this year's RPI) and you could bus:
Loyola Chicago (15)
St Bonaventure (28)
MTSU (30)
WKU (31) - already scheduled
Murray St. (52)
Marshall (76) - already scheduled
Belmont (82)
Illinois St. (84)
ETSU (94)
SIU (97)
Wright St. (98)

No doubt on Loyola message board their fans are saying they got this far only because of "matchups". Has nothing to do with coaching...nothing it all.

FWIW...and if anyone cares...

I'm pretty sure Loyola offered more than one Ohio recruit.

Carry on.

We have talked ad nauseam on this board about the plight of the mid-majors and the MAC. With all the statistics on declining viewership, interest and attendance, Loyola is a great underdog story for the tournament. You have got the 1963 national championship team (some in attendance) who made a statement during the Civil Rights Movement. You have got Sister Jean another story. How many religious affiliated teams have a 98 year old chaplain, let alone a 98 year old nun who was there for the 1963 national championship game!

However, make not mistake about it, this is not what the big boy Power Conferences and many on the Selection Committee want to see. It sends a message that mid-majors belong. It is a small miracle that an #11 seed mid-major team made it this far. I am not holding my breath, but every mid-major commissioner should get on a conference call and demand to be heard by the NCAA and the Selection Committee. Thank you Loyola-Chicago for being a vehicle to make a statement for the mid-majors!

Ohio beat Indiana State.
Ohio to the Final Four.
It does give one hope.

This is Porter Moser's 7th season at Loyola and it's the first time he's gone to the NCAAs. You would have demanded his firing years ago with nonsensical hashtags.

Not sure what is being alluded to here in his bio. FOrgive me for being a bit thick but I missed the point you are making.

My favorite tidbit in this Loyola run is the fact that Coach recruits winners. There are 7 State Championship rings in that locker room. Before we lost the content there was a good thread on the Board about the number of rings in the locker room as Groce started recruiting guys who had tasted success and were hungry for more. Right now I think we have one. Under Groce at one time there were 5 0r 6 and several guys who had advanced through several rounds of the tourney. Tasting winning makes you hungry for more. Coming from programs that have a culture of winning prepares guys for the next level as expectations are part of their daily existence. Loyola has 7 guys in there who have tasted winning and made sacrifices for a team/program to get there. I will take those guys over studs with accolades and awards who never won a thing every day of the week. Go Ramblers.

never argue with idiots, they bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Wrong. You don't get it Tilly. This guy took over a program that hadn't won anything in 3 decades. Massive difference from what has taken place in Athens over last 12 years. Now if he goes the next 6 years at Loyola without making the NCAA Tournament, you don't think the fanbase will be upset and demand more? Of course they will. You can't be that naive. Enjoy the rest of the tourney and #GoSisterJean

Born...you've always preached the importance of HS state championship winners on roster. Totally, totally agree with all of this ^^^^. They don't have one guy that was a top 200 national recruit.

All I know is they have a very favorable matchup with Michigan in the Final Four. The X factor will be if Wagner gets going in this game. I get it, the last few games Wagner has been hit or miss, but the thing is against a team like Loyola, they get to the bucket very easy in comparison to other teams.

I disagree....Florida State was the better matchup. Seminoles are way less disciplined then UM and coaching is a huge factor here. Leonard Hamilton is nowhere near John Belein. The last 11 seconds of that game really proved it. What the hell was he thinking down 4 with 11 seconds left and not fouling?? Idiotic to say the game is over at that point. Belein now has 7 days to prepare for Loyola? Give me Michigan in this one all the way. Although I'll be rooting for #SisterJean
