For those of you who visited Piscataway in September and enjoyed the Bobcat Bash in RU's new visitor's center, don't be fooled by the illusion.  The financial chickens are coming home to roost.

Loved this quote:

"So far, Rutgers has stuck with a reshuffled Big East Conference that includes newcomers like Boise State and Central Florida, instead of following long-time rivals Syracuse, West Virginia and Pitt to greener pastures."

Jarrett apparently doesn't know that in order to move to "greener pastures," you have to be invited.  Apparently no AQs but the Big Least would have Rutgers.  Otherwise, they would've already been gone, too.

We will get by.
We will get by.
We will get by.
We will survive.

Rutgers football has and continues to be a black hole.
The stadium expansion was supposed to be  an example of "if you build it,they will come".(they didn't) It was also supposed to paid for almost entirely with private funds,BUT  they started the expansion and went ahead with construction with virtually no donations, not even pledges.
The private money never showed up,but the stadium expansion did.Now N.J. taxpayers, like me are stuck paying for it.

Same with the Visitor's Center.Schiano was this supposed to be doing this great job of recruiting talent.,then he says RU is losing the recruiting batlle and needs a multi million dollar Visitor's Center, that we're also paying for with 100% tax dollars.

Not surprising, as the NJ/NY area has never been college football crazy* like other parts of the country.

Maybe, because:
  • Too many pro sports teams to compete for attention.
  • No traditional (local) college powers
Rutgers is like us, all the NJ/NY/and Philly pro teams are like a giant Ohio State. (insert paid professionals joke here)

Rutgers would have to be a perennial top 10-15 team for a decade to gain (and maintain) significant traction in the fan base. I think the same would have to happen to us.

A very tall order...

* ok, you do hear tales about how they went crazy for Notre Dame and Army back in the day. And if Notre Dame ever becomes a true National Championship contender again, that's who the fans will back. Especially the older generation...

I don't endorse the furry lifestyle, but when the Bobkitten is involved things can change mighty quickly...

Actually, according to media reports and fan boards out here, the Big East was pushing hard to get Notre Dame to join the Big East in all sports.
They figured,in addition to playing RU every other year they could schedule at least 1 home game at Yankee Stadium or at the Meadowlands.

RU was also hoping for a BIg Ten invite to boost their football standing.
