Indeed - but without the Ks - Crazy Cats. Started as a project in Sports Ad and then stuck around for a few years. Used to have a keg in a classroom in the Convo after the game with the players and Nee - yea, that's not happening again.

On a side note I like something like Crazy Cats (think Cameron Crazies - damn we were first) rather than O-Zone. O-Zone is a section, Crazy Cats were fans/people. More interest in joining (and recruiting) a group of like fans, than a "section."

Took Nee a few games to get his first win. Few of us cut up basketballs and wore them over our heads until he got the win. Got people's attention. Like Cameron Crazies, dress crazy, act crazy.

Crazy Cats would be a great idea for what I'm trying to go for. I've got almost 10 people interested so far and we have a group chat set up to communicate chants / distribute information etc. We are planning on keeping it simple with some basic chants like "I believe that we will win" and "SUCKS" after each opposing player is announced in the opposing team's starting lineup.

Make copies and put all your chants in the Ozone on game day. I'm talking like 200 copies and put them in every seat so that you all are on the same page. When I was in the Ozone (2003-2007), we had copies of all our chants waiting on us when we arrived to the game. Chants will change from game to game based on research you do on the other teams.

cc-cat,

Didn't the crazy cats go bankrupt? Perhaps due to embezzlement? Was that under your regime or someone else? Statute of limitations should protect whoever was involved.

I left the club financially strong and with a healthy membership. my primary sin was making sure the post game kegs were adequately tapped and cold prior to the game. it is my understanding that the subsequent administration may have taken a few liberties with respect to cash flow but in their defense they were just trying to support the local pizza and bar economy.

Yeah, I remember Big Red Tomato thrived during this time period but went bankrupt and had to close soon after the guilty parties graduated and moved on from Athens.

Bwhahaha that's pretty crazy! I highly doubt we will have a keg but we will surely make up for it in being loud. I'm currently in talks with a former O-Zone leader and set to talk with him this afternoon on reconstructing "D-Lo's Crew".

Excellent - you're on the right track. You're 10 - 12 will quickly become 15 - 20. then you'll hav others that take part. It'll grow. Key is have fun. Also look what others are doing and build on it. Player intros - Duke greets each play "Hello Roger" - merge with your idea "Hello Roger - You're going to lose today.". Everyone one yells "air ball" - A small college here chants "keep shooting". Another have a great series of chants. after a bad shot, one guy points at the opposing coach and yells "Coach says" - student body responds "stop shooting"

"Coach says" - "stop shooting" "Coach says" - "stop shooting" "Coach says" - "stop shooting" Stop Shooting Stop Shooting Stop Shooting

player subs out
"Coach says" - "sit down" etc.

Player gets burnt own d
"Coach says" - "Play D"

One chant, just altered. Loved it when a player made a bad pas and the whole student body pointed at him and chanted "his bad"

Have fun. I interviewed Cameron Crazies for an article a few years back. After a game they don't talk about the game, They talk about the costumes, the chants, the fun. It's their event. If they talk about the game its cause and effect - "oh man so and so had a killer dunk, the place just go lit. Then we all did the loudest "poster" chant". (if player gets posterized, the student body points to him in unison and chant "poster")

Final key, don't let the athletic department co-op the group. They'll sanitize it and water it down. Remember, those are folks who still think having students ride tricycles during TV timeouts is engaging. Be crazy, dress crazy, have fun. And yes, pease bring back winning team losing team.

Here's an old example I found. Wish I could find some of the older ones from teams like Akron or Kent who weren't as squeaky clean as the Bonnies...

Oh man... totally forgot about these things. My favorite was reading up on all the silly things that were dugged up on the visiting team's starting 5 and coming up with cheeky heckles.

Hey guys, my name is Chase Ellis and I am a junior at Ohio University. I've been highly interested in be a part of / reviving the O-Zone since I discovered it just after the win against Belmont. I was looking for advice on potentially regaining its reputation among the MAC conference and making the Convo the hardest arena to play in for opposing teams.

As others have said, having a core group dedicated to attend most/all home games and to be loud and active the whole game goes a long way.

It may also be worth trying to reach out to Jeff Boals on Twitter/Instagram and say that you're trying to resurrect the student section. Who knows if he'll respond or has time, but he very obviously wants the students invested into coming to games and may be able to get you connected with the right people in the Athletic department to make it happen. Worst case scenario he just leaves you on read ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

someone from more recent years can tell you about the group of students from Brazil that showed up for a few games and had a blast. Singing, chanting, etc.

Unfortunately I won't be able to make the volleyball game tonight due to increased school work. I plan to do a trial run against Robert Morris with a few friends and their groups which should combine it to around 15-20 people.

Thanks FearLeon! Plan is to keep it casual and go from there if multiple others express interest. I'm currently devising a note to send to Jeff Boals via social media and the band director for the 110 to get them on the same page and see what we can do in terms of making the Convo a living hell for our oppoenents!
