always good to "borrow" the chants folks know

I beg you, don't bring back/"borrow" the "you suck" chant at the end of "Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, hey, hey, hey, goodbye" when a player fouls out. While I hear this chant by most student cheering sections upon a foul out, I think the old O Zone was the only section I heard the "you suck" add on. Always cringe-worthy.

Like Greencat said in another thread, no "get off my lawn" responses, please.

Fun fact: We started adding “You suck” at the end of more chants when people started complaining to us about it.

As an old-timer myself, I have to say that the "you suck" chant the O Zone used to do is VERY BAD and under no circumstances should the student section bring that back next Friday at 6 PM against Toledo.

Let me reiterate, under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you idiot college kids say the word "SUCKS" during our game on Friday, January 21st. It will be offensive to me, an old person, and also our opponents, the Toledo Rockets, next Friday at 6 PM.

I might just walk down to the student section before tipoff and tell those young whippersnapers to watch their language. This will surely have the impact I am looking for :-)

Get copies of The Post or A-News for the next home game. During starting lineups have the student section turn around and read the paper. Yell "Sucks!" after each opposing player is introduced. Have them crumble it up and throw them in the air during our starting lineups. Completely unoriginal, but it looks good and gets the students engaged early. Get them jumping on the tip off. Encourage them to stand the whole game.

Chase, a lot of the stuff that has been suggested recently was standard O Zone fare back in the day. Like "sucks" in the starting lineup.

When an opposing player commits a foul: "you you you you you onnnnnnn YOU"

I friggin love the you you you onnnnnn you chant! Me and my buddies have done the "sucks" chant - might need to get some newspapers for that for Friday. I love the idea someone suggested for if someone fouls out, should have done it when Reece fouled out for BG on Tuesday:

The "I believe that we will win" chant would also be a good start.

Just my opinion but the “newspaper-you suck” cheer by the ozone in the past has struck me as being rather weak for another reason. I don’t know that I would personally classify it as “cringe-worthy” but it doesn’t make sense to me. Supposedly the group is involved with their newspapers, with seemingly no interest or concern about the opposing players, but when the names are spoken they obviously have been paying very close attention. It’s not just us though, I’ve noticed other cheering sections do it.

Hey, it’s up to the students and it’s their organization, but why not at least think about doing something original such as “Never heard of him Lou”, “Don’t they have more than that Lou”, “Guess not”, has to be many more that can be developed along these lines. Or, if the newspapers are used something along the lines of looking up and saying “Did you say something Lou?” after each intro.

Speaking of originality, one of the best signs I ever saw in the Convo was “Beat Butt-ler” when they came to town a number of years ago. Although I think Mr. Schaus, or someone, had it removed, I thought it was pretty cute. By the way, we did beat Butler that game.

Eh, that was Akron and Buffalo's thing, if they still have student sections.

I get what you're saying. I always kinda thought it would make sense if we picked either reading the newspapers or turning backs, but not both. Does the Post even still print?

Maybe everybody in the student section gets on their cell phones and sends a text or takes a selfie. Oh, wait...

The Post does still offer printed copies. I will have to get some for Friday. I thought the "I believe" chant would be good because a lot of kids probably know it from high school student sections.

I think you have the right idea going with what students would recognize. The goal should to be re-energize the Ozone and not nitpick at what the chants are just because some people feel a certain way about them.

Get students to buy in first, then perfect the craft.

Also worth noting, this season has a chance to be historic. We haven't started off 13-2 in how long (I know somebody on here knows)? A potential top 25 ranking is within striking distance. We're coming off another historic season, knocked off the defending champs, Preston drafted, etc. The Ozone has a great opportunity to help this team reach another level at home. Just something to think about when trying to recruit your peers!

That was the game Chris Singletary got called for a flagrant foul, then another tech, and Jerome shot like six free throws in a row.

What was the score at halftime, shabamon? At the under 4-minute media time out in the second half?

Couldn't tell ya haha. But I do know Allen Hester had a dunk that almost rattled out. I also didn't lead scoreboard for this one even though that was my year. Someone asked me if he could do it as a favor.

I agree completely. Still trying to piece together a willing group for Friday, I have some willing people but they aren't sure of their schedule. Hope to give Norm some much needed assistance!
