Wasn't it about two seasons back that starting BGSU shooting guard left the team mid/late season for personal reasons?

So it is not totally uncommon. Hopefully the St. V star alum and Bobcat will before long be playing his lock down defense and hitting corner shots and going to the line like the cool cucumber he is and draining free throw after free throw to beat those MAC foes.

Go McDay, Go Bobcats!

I'm staying optimistic that Lunden will return - tons of different things could mean "indefinite leave" whether it be mental reasons, family emergency or dissatisfaction with minutes. Boals seemed a bit hesitant to answer the question of why he is on "indefinite leave" in his presser. The main thing is I don't know, we don't know and we probably might never know what's happening behind closed doors. All I can say is I wish him the best and hopefully he can return to action as he's a huge part of our rotation.

Let's just hope for his well being. Beyond that, it's none of our business.

I hope he is continuing to enjoy his time in Athens and will continue his studies at Ohio.

McDay will not be returning to the basketball team or Ohio to finish his degree. He is fine but just personally spent with the basketball grind which is puzzling to his family but he's his own person. Certainly things could change after being away for a period of time and a change of heart takes place but that is extremely unlikely. All the best to him.

Best wishes to Luden, a good person, and his health is definitely what is the priority in life.

Better to get out than stay in half-hearted. I’m assuming this opens up another scholarship for next year? Does that go to another recruit? BVP super duper senior year?

So sad to hear this news. I am a big fan of Lunden and enjoyed watching him play. I wish him good health and happiness in all he does.

Lundo was a model student-athlete and a good Bobcat as a player and person. He will always be a Bobcat and I wish him nothing but health and happiness in the future.

Damn. So sad to see this result. I wish him the best and its a huge loss for our team in terms of depth. Hopefully we can continue to rely on the younger guys in Clayton and Ezuma to make up for it.

That's a blow.

It's tough to swallow when attrition happens right before the season begins or during the season. I'm not saying Lunden hung the team out to dry - if now's the time, it's the time, and you have to do what's best for you.

So our guard rotation is on thin ice right now. We're going to be in big trouble if any of Sears, Schmock, or Brown get hurt. Mid majors don't tend to make noise in March without great guard play. Fortunately, we've been learning how to deal with that rotation while also winning ahead of MAC play.

Depending on the matchup, I wonder if we start experimenting with putting Roderick at the two-guard and playing Towns or Carter at the three with two other bigs.

This does open a scholarship, assuming we are sticking to 13 scholarship players. I would think this opens the door for Dwight returning next year if there's still work to be done on his Master's degree, if he wants.

Agreed shabamon. The Towns at three experiment would be very interesting to see as he hasn't been bad from three (2/6 33%) and I think it could help BRod a ton to move him to the guard position to give him a reduction of pressure of making threes.

This has happened before. Remember, Alex Kellogg walked away from the game during his junior year at Ohio (he transferred in from Providence). I'm sure there were others. Everybody has their own needs and the issues around covid have caused a lot of students to take a step back. He has to do what's best for him and it's good that he recognizes this. I really do wish him well.

Disappointing to hear. I hope for his sake he at least finished out his fall semester.

I am ready to see more of AJ Clayton. He has earned it.

BVP would have a scholarship but not take up a scholarship roster spot next year if he desires to continue to play just like Carter this year. It could go to Wilson. We don't know of Wilson is going to play this year. We don't know of yo can injury redshirt your super senior season and if you do if your scholarship won't count for a second time. My guess is that if Wilson can play next year he'll take up a scholarship spot.

A big loss for the team but like someone said, if his heart wasn’t in it then time to move on… I really liked his tenacity on D especially.
I also remember a couple players that changed their minds about playing college ball here at Ohio. Marquis Horne was one of our highest ranked recruits and left only a couple days in, and then there was Steven Coleman who pursued a rap career in making instructional songs on how to smoke weed… (I dare someone to find that song!)
If only there were someone to step into Lunden’s spot over winter break… If the rumors were true about LF we should know shortly… Of course, I’m not saying it will happen but, it was never dispelled so there’s a chance!

Hope this has a happy ending for him.

Hope he has dreams of greatness in a pursuit of a life goal.

Hope Covid and all the mandates didn't mess with his well being and impact his decision making.

Hope he has a Merry Christmas and many sweet memories of his too short time as a Bobcat.

There was a kid Saul recruited from SC (I think) that also walked away. I feel like he went to a religious school to become a minister or something, but again, I could be wrong.

Best wishes to Lunden. He'll be missed but he has to do what is best for him, also. Once a Bobcat, always a Bobcat (Exception for Jason Grunkemeyer).
