OUT:
Fantroy - transfer to Texas Southern
Alper - exhausted eligibility
Mace - calling it a career despite remaining eligibility
Guice - calling it a career despite remaining eligibility
Johnson - exhausted eligibility

IN:
Anyssa Jones - transfer from Dayton
Aliah McWhorther - transfer from Wake Forest
Gigi Bower - freshman
Dani Scully - freshman

RETURNING:
Tabeling, Williams, Barnett, Baxter, McClure, Laffler, Austin, Watkins

???:
Kate Dennis: She is listed on the 2025 roster even though she was honored on Senior Day. Her instagram says she is returning to Ohio to start her MBA. Excellent!

That would make 13 spots taken. The team could add two more scholarship players if they choose. All three of their All-MAC honorees (Tabeling, McClure, Watkins) return. The roster update confirms that Austin missed the season due to injury, but she returns. As it stands now, there are five players listed at 6'1", which isn't gigantic and some are more perimeter-oriented, but it could be an improvement on the size concerns if like three of them are ready to go.

I would expect a year of continued improvement. A winning record overall and in conference should be an expectation and advancing to the tournament semis is a more than reasonable goal.

Since nobody wants to take a stab at it......

How many of the current 12 MAC women's coaches have won a MAC regular season title? Bob Boldon's 2 titles are the only titles for retuning coaches.

How many have won a MAC tournament title?
Boldon has one. Todd Starkey of Kent State also has one which he earned in his 8th year last season as the third seed in a pretty big upset since Toledo and Ball State dominated the regular season.

A new name on the roster. Madison Lim from Mechanicsburg. I assume a walk-on as she already spent an academic year at Ohio.

The Dennis situation does seem odd, at least to me. I know she walked on Senior Day (I was there). Then when WBB started posting videos and photos of the summer workouts recently, she was in there. It seems strange to walk on Senior Day then come back, but maybe she was undecided at the time? The veteran presence would be good if she is in fact returning.

I think the oddness mainly stems from the fact that we just don't get much information released from the program or from media coverage, so we are left to guessing and piecing things together.

Given the NIL deal she had last season, I was surprised to see her want to go. It's certainly not all about money, but being paid to play college ball won't ever happen again. I'm glad she's apparently back. This team goes through players and the scholarship would have simply sat unused.

Another new name on the roster. Kiersten Cashell. 5-10 sophomore and a transfer from Capital, but only played six games. From Hilliard Davidson.

They were picked sixth. Jaya McClure is on the second team. I do notice that there is yet another late roster add with a freshman named Olivia Rinard from Williamstown, WV. I know nothing about her or if she is a walk-on or late scholarship.

I'm guessing McClure is injured, but even without her, we are experienced enough to not fall at home by 32! to an A-Sun team that has been D1 for only half a decade.

Great run from the championship team through the Hooks, Johnson, Burris era, but the Boldon seat might be warming up.

A bit early in the season to make any assessments, dontcha think?

Plus Boldon is on year one of a new contract.

The 21-22 season was a catastrophic disappointment with the talent we had. That was the start. Then the last 2 seasons were 17-42 (12-24) in the MAC and early indications are more of the same this season. That's a pretty rough 4 year run that would cause most of us to scream our heads off if the Men's coach had a run like that.

That said, I like the guy and I'm not sure how you improve on him. I am mostly just surprised at the results more than anything else as I've come to expect better from Boldon.

That loss was only one game but sort of jarring. I thought Boldon had such a great class with the Hooks class and they just couldn't stay healthy later in their career. Then he lost his whole team when that class graduated and had another ridiculous injury prone year so the bad record wasn't surprising. Then it sort of looked like it was starting to come together at the end of last year after a really rough start. I was expecting Boldon to get this team back around .500. I'd imagine Cromer was too. That second loss of the season might have been eye-opening.

I was extremely impressed with Bellarmine on a number of levels and will be following them the rest of the season as a result. They out ran, out shot, and were much more physical than the Ohio Bobcats. Being a life long gym rat, myself, I can accept the Bobcats being out shot and out ran, but I cannot accept them being pushed around physically like they were. They better get this together with the Buckeyes coming to town next week. I am not expecting them to be able to keep up with the much more physically gifted Buckeyes, but I don't want to see them get pushed around physically in the Convo. In the future, some serious off season weight training is in order. They don't necessarily have to look like East German swimmers before the collapes of the Soviet Union, but, come on, they need to be able to hold their ground at least. Go Bobcats!

Never an excuse to be beaten down the floor. I’ll give the other points, but beat down the floor? Nope!

Kate Dennis with a career high 15 points and Bailey Tabeling finished one rebound shy of her first career double double as the ladies overcame an 0-12 shooting performance from Monica Williams to get their first win of the season against George Washington.

Hosting Ohio State on Wednesday. Boy that is gonna be ugly.

Had a memory on facebook pop up from 5 years ago today of me taking my daughter to watch Ohio beat OSU in Columbus. Times have changed.

They played a lot better on Saturday. They handled the ball well (still room for improvement), passed well and rebounded. The defense was better. I hope we see improvement as the season goes on.

No, say it isn't so?! It's only a team with a poisonous nut for a mascot and a significantly bigger budget. Come on, Lady Cats, defend the House!!

Tough loss for the Lady Cats tonight at the Convo against the #12th ranked Ohio State Buckeyes, who beat them 106 - 42. There was a Heck of a Lot of Buckeye Fans there who were supporting their team on the road. Good for them. I don't blame them though, the Buckeyes looked dominant, fast, skilled, more athletic, and generally bigger than the Bobcats. The Buckeyes had a 6' 6'' player from Finland by the name of Elsa Lemmila, who came off the bench and had 14 rebounds and 21 points. We looked nervous, tentative, and disorganized earlier. We had difficulty defending the better team, had way too many turnovers through out the game, and our field goal percentage was 25.5. Ouch. Let's hope for better times for our Lady Bobcats, because they appear to have some nice pieces that have yet to come together as a team.

A lot of them are also Katie Smith fans who got the opportunity to take a short drive to see the GOAT of OSU women’s basketball.

Yeah, I can see why? That team is not only packed with talent, but they were playing with one another like they have been doing so for years. I observed the coach talking up fans and their kids in the stands. The Coach clearly has a lot of charisma, positivity, and confidence, which must be infectious amongst her players.

Not that it would have made a difference in this game, but no McClure or Watkins? That's two out of three all-MAC selections from last year. Are they in boots on the bench?

Yes, the two did appear injured and unavailable, and, yes, it would have likely made a difference. Not in terms of the actual outcome of winning and losing the game though, but we probably would not have been as dominated as we were last night. The Buckeyes looked every bit of a top ranked school, but they took advantage of our inconsistent shooting and our lack of cohesion as a team, especially on Defense. There were so many Buckeye Fans there that it probably didn't seem like a road game for Ohio State. No wonder people like to do business with that particular fanbase.

That was an embarrassing score to have scrolling on the ESPN ticker all night and still this morning. Yikes.

Can't imagine lots of folks would prefer seeing a likely blowout loss in person over a pivotal football game from the comforts of their couch.
