I'd imagine every low and mid-major Freshman of the Year hits the portal. Heck, every D2 and D2 same thing! So Blyden Jr. was expected.

Add Brant Byers of Miami to the portal. That would be a big loss.

Not sure if it is true or click bait but I saw, on X, Brant Buyers leaving Fiami for portal riches and fame.

It's legit, now being reported by multiple outlets.

Have to believe the fictional red birds are circling the wagons on Elmer. If they can't retain him....

Byers and Elmer shot a combined 8% from three their last game. 1-13 to be exact.

Elmer was #2 on their payroll last year behind Suder. He had P4 offers last year and gave Miami a hometown discount. I have to believe the market will be brisk for a 6'6" 43% 3-point shooter.

It would be crazy for him to not transfer this time. I was looking at the On3 portal page and saw they estimated the value of the 6-11 center from Georgia at 2.1 million bucks. Top players are really making bank.

The last game fiami played did knock lots of shine off that apple though.

Tracking transfers throughout the MAC.

OUTGOING

Ball State: Davion Hill, Armoni Ziegler, Preston Copeland, Kayden Fish, Alex Farley

Armoni Zeigler is nice. Only one year left, but I like his game. Well-rounded. 6'4".

Davion Hill actually led them in scoring last season. Will be a JR. Built like a linebacker at 6'2" 225. He's one of those JUCO guys that guppy thinks don't exist in division 1.

Still think we need to find a pass-first PG that will operate an offense instead of looking for his shot at half court, but I would be happy with either of those guys.

My sources have told me that Toby Nwokolo, who played a total of 16 minutes as a 6-6 frosh at Toledo this past year, is portaling and plans on joining former h.s. teammates McKinney and Bowens in Athens next year. Boals offered him a scholly when he was in high school before he signed with UT.

Meanwhile, 6-2 Reynoldsburg sophomore Mekhi Roddy has been offered by most Ohio MAC schools, including Ohio.

If that's true, you'd have three plays who on paper seem very similar in position within two adjacent classes (Kelly, Bowens, Nwokolo). Throw on Devin Royal pursuit and there are questions about roster construction:

1) If you were to get Royal, how do you use him? Is he a three? I've read he's more naturally a four, but if you play him there, where is Simmons? The five again? Is our starting front court gonna go 6'7" and 6'6"?

2) Can Kelly play the two guard? That'd be great as long as that three point percentage can go up.

3) Even if you don't get Royal, what is the vision for the group of Kelly, Nwokolo, Bowens, and heck even Mosley, Burris, and Kuany who are all in that combo-wing-forward group who are all within a class of each other? Is there a plan for all them to play cohesively in time? Or are we getting a bunch of similar guys and hoping a few of them solidify themselves?

I would hate to see Kelly get relegated to the bench.

Gotta replace Fisher on the bench, I guess.

I mean, look who is constructing the roster. It's been long time since the make up has ever made sense.

If true, Nwokolo isn't exactly how I'd use 1 of the 6 open schollies but I'm just a keyboard warrior.

It seems like an injury would be the only thing to put Kelly on the bench however maybe this is not the best time to get overly optimistic about getting Royal. Not saying it can't happen, just don't have a warm and fuzzy feeling about us actually getting him.

Yes, exactly. We're not a good team that's looking to fill in a few specific gaps with role players.

We're a bad team without nearly enough talent. Bring in as much talent as possible and adapt to the talent you have.

If that's true,

Sorry, shabamon and others, but it was just an attempt at a little April Fools joke. I thought for sure that someone on BA would have picked up on it. I actually came up with this improbable scenario back when Fishbate was Greencat, but thought it would be best if posted on the first of April.

Well played, man.

Now watch us still end up with Nwokolo (haha).

Keep an eye on what happens at Toledo. Been hearing too many rumblings that Todd K is really hunting for a new job this offseason. Doesn't want to sit around for new AD to come in and potentially chop his head off.....

That's a bummer. Probably a guy that develops into a big time player by the time he's a senior if he can improve his 3 point shooting.

Yikes. I thought Kelly was for sure staying. Agreed, his ceiling is high. Kinda surprising because he was a lock for a starting and bigger role.

Simmons has to be looking around like "who am I playing with next season?"

That's now 7 scholarships Boals and staff have to fill. I mean, this happens across the landscape. However, JJ Kelly likely isn't landing anywhere better than a lateral move. Have to wonder if more money was asked for or if something else happened.
