One other tidbit I've not seen mentioned here...Conners tweeted out his highlights yesterday from the year and said...Year 4...maybe more.

He did 2 years at JUCO so perhaps he's trying to reclaim those years.

One year contracts....been saying it forever. Unfortunately, we lose the ones that can help and we keep the ones who have no business playing division-one basketball. I give credit to Simmons for wanting to take part in the shitcapade lame duck Boals season of 2026-2027.

Thanks, not sure how I missed it.

And maybe just me being petty, but have a look at that AI-generated �Ohio logo� in JJ�s post and tell me any of that stuff is true about Ohio holding a special place in his heart, etc, etc. (Not that I fault him for leaving, it�s just clear he wants out.)

Is it possible that Boals guaranteed no one a role besides Simmons because how awful this season was?

I also look at this from the lens of agents. They see a their client, JJ in this case, have a solid but unspectacular freshman year. They claim he should be paid based on having a bigger role this upcoming year instead of what he just did. �You currently have one other starter, you need JJ more now than ever� angle.

While the portal is absolutely loaded already with talent and more guys going in every day, based on the 1-for-3 batting average from last time (Simmons = a hit, Conners and Breath = misses) it's hard to be optimistic on who Boals will bring in. Maybe he and the staff have something up their sleeve. We shall see. Either it will work and the Bobcats will challenge for MAC supremacy or another disappointing season. April 7th is pretty soon...the early results may start rolling in.

This seems most likely.

If Boals told everyone nobody is safe and it shook everyone, unfortunate, but ultimately - good. I would've done it in December. If he and his agent asked for money based on a potentially increased leadership role, hypothetical increase in production... but his results shouldn't guarantee a starting a role let alone Simmons money.

He's a freshman, and he's solid, but fairly limited offensively and despite being 6'6" doesn't rebound much either.

Team Stats Per 40:
PTS: 12.9 (8th)
RBS: 5.7 (6th)
AST: 0.9 (10th)
STL: 1.3 (7th)

Less than zero threat to create shots for others, doesn't make much of his own... on a 15-win team.... as a guard? Don't let the door hit ya, my guy. Unless you're Bruce Bowen, that's not good enough.

I would have loved him back, but the only person I'm sweating is Fisher (or Simmons if he bails), cause I think he is a difference maker, in extremely limited time. And perhaps he's not, if he couldn't see the floor on that team.

Next season is wide open - I'm excited to see what they can bring in.

Seeing an entirely different team with an entirely different identity is what this whole team needs. I just hope it's a team with identified roles and not the seven highest rated guards out of HS that we could find.

My take: A P5 has already told JJ Kelly they will pay him more than Ohio. And for the P5 if he earns paying time next year that's great and if not, it is no big deal for them to have him just as roster depth.

For JJ Kelly, he takes his shot and gets paid. If he doesn't earn playing time at the new place he wouldn't make the NBA anyway. And now he earns more $ which is all that matters.

(Just like AJ Brown last year with Florida.)

Our expectations need to match the cash on hand. And our expectations should be lower than ever before. This sucks.
