Updates on pitching recruits:

Licking Valley's Lichtenauer recently lead his team to a win over league rival Granville on a 3-hitter. He struck out 8 and didn't walk a batter. The two runs he allowed were the first runs he's allowed this spring. His fastball has been topping out in the mid-80s.

Pickerington Central's Landtiser pitched his team to a 5-0 win over Newark earlier today. Dads from both teams told me during the game that he's been clocked throwing his fastball in the low 90s this spring. They both questioned that as his top speed today was mid-80s. His go-to pitch is his cutter, which he threw nearly 80% of the time in today's game. I was told his junior teammate Tyler Slater has the better arm and has committed to Ohio.

I’ve seen the Pick Central young men twice this season. The older one can flat out rake HS pitching.

Fastball velocity nowadays is like reported height of basketball players. You just know it is inflated by a few digits.

I guess I don't get the Wren is falling apart, not a recruiting tool arguments. I've been to all of the Ohio MAC school fields, I think Wren is better than Akron, Kent, BGSU, and Toledo. I'd put Miami's field just slightly ahead of Wren.

Miami's facility is by far the nicest. Kent is also very nice and BG has made some major improvements recently and is a program on the rise. I'd honestly only put the Wren ahead of Toledo on this list. I haven't seen Akron's new field but looked ok on the stream I watched.

My dream would be to turf the entire field and get rid of the wood fencing and replace it with brick. Imagine a brick outfield wall with ivy, like Wrigley.

Something else I'm pondering is how much does the Copperheads chip in with facility maintenance? I'm assuming $0 but they get significant usage in the summer and draw way more fans. Maybe its time they help out a bit?

Last time I was around it ZERO would be correct.

I would assume they have a rental fee for the field that goes to the university as the property owner. It'd be on the university to then use those dollars for improvements. And/or maybe they aren't charging enough.

PS - Standard 2-1 series loss this weekend. Still have not won a MAC series all season, and only series we won was Butler.

Nope, Copperheads were a learning lab for Sports Ad, therefore did not pay a dime. Now, that may have changed in the last couple years, but I don’t think so. And it’s not hard to figure out why the Copperheads have the same colors, some things get shared.

They actually won a series! Taking 2 of 3 against WMU to wrap up the year.

14-37 against a non-difficult schedule.
18-32 in 2024
19-30 in 2023
Not terrible in 22 & 21 using mostly inherited players.

Tough to get a new contract after that 5 year run. Perhaps he is just a good on-field coach and not great at procuring talent. It's time to move on.

As I put on the other tread, hate for people to lose their job, but this is a needed change in the program. Andrew, you couldn’t have laid it out any better. Hopefully his connections will land him elsewhere in a good role that fits his strengths.

Another central Ohio pitcher: Miami Trace's Gaige Stuckey signed with Ohio last winter. The lefty went 9-2 this spring with an ERA of 1.10 and 128 Ks in 70 innings.

Who knows if Stuckey or the other high school recruits mentioned above are still committed to Ohio with the coaching change.

The top two national seeds were just eliminated by mid-majors UTSA and Wright State. Murray State plays Ole Miss today in a winner-takes-all regional final. Mids can be good in baseball. It takes a young coach like the one at Wright State (37 years old) who has been his conference coach of the year 5 out of 7 years.

I left out UA-LR with a chance to end LSU's season tonight.

By my count, Wright State has 2 transfers and 8players from 100 miles or more away. He’s mined the hell out of the Miami Valley, the OCC and GCL. Interesting strategy😎 recruit baseball rich territory.

My nephew plays left field for Wright State. He is from Dayton and the do recruit lots of local talent. It was fun watching them play on TV this weekend. Even got to see my brother and other nephew on TV in the stands. My sophomore nephew hit 20 homers this season and batted 4th. They have a good coach and the team has a great reputation.

Congrats to the three mids who made the super regionals:

Coastal Carolina
Murray State
UTSA

It must have been extra sweet for UTSA to eliminate Texas.

If Arkansas eliminates Tennessee, the hogs could win it all.
