At a critical time in the season Kent reportedly has axed DC Tom Kaufman in the wake of Wednesday's 54-30 loss to CMU. Corners coach CJ Cox, who was at Montana last year, will take over on an interim basis. https://footballscoop.com/news/kent-state-is-making-a-cha...

Nobody from the Nebraska mafia ever gets fired.

Honestly, for all the bitching about Albin (and I have done some of it), he was dealt a bad hand, had injuries and the team seems like it is playing very hard for him when it doesn't matter. In comparison, Collins has had almost three years of underperformance.

I’ll be the first to admit that I complained about Albin, but whatever has happened these past couple weeks is kinda amazing and gives me some hope. Weren’t we labeled as the team that couldn’t win in November? Two games in and we have won both. I’m gonna really make my judgement in a year or two. Offensively, I feel like we’re back to normal but defense has been very poor. Some of the play call has been questionable on that side of the ball too.

One thing I am recalling is some BAers averring earlier in the season that Rourke isn't an FBS QB. These last 3 games he is looking very much like an FBS QB. He just might give Ohio two more good seasons.

He can play three more if he wants. I think that he has discovered that if he hands off on a read option when he should keep it both running and passing will be more difficult and he will get benched. That's a huge part of what has changed.

My thought was always that poor play calling was the primary cause of his troubles. It seemed like they didn't trust him to throw on early downs and the running game was struggling because of the O-line. It seemed like every series had a 3 and 8 or 3 and 9 and the defense was sitting pass. Having him pass more on early downs has stretched the field because he has such a great arm. The QB draw is now a huge weapon because the defense is so stretched. Having Cox back helps--he seems like the only game-breaker on the outside.

I actually felt the same with the playcalling for Rogers. Eventually, teams realized that he was going to throw 10 times a game and would key on him running. They should've mixed it up more.

I actually liked what they did in the last game. There was a time late in the game that they were going to run on every play--Rogers should be in at that point. I liked how they snuck Rogers in on first down on one series. I think they dropped the ball going into the season not having more plays set up with Rogers in as a back and Rourke taking snaps. I think it would've been beneficial to Rogers as he has the athleticism to play at the next level, but does not have the throwing ability to play QB.

What we've seen over the last month or so is that both QBs have improved on the weakest part of their game. Earlier in the season I said it would be easier to make a better passer out of Rogers than a better runner out of Rourke. Well, both have improved. The last couple games Rourke has shown his running ability -- he's now the fourth leading rusher on the team. And Rogers is hitting almost 60% of his passes with a rating of 115.10 and only one INT in 49 throws.
