Just a few questions to ponder.

Will we hire one or two new coaches?

Will the new DC be an internal hire?

Will the new DC come from a team that has made coaching changes?

Any chance Jim Burrow is itching to get back into coaching? I always liked him and he has a built in connection to the program.

tough position to fill. good chance you’re fired after next year. even fir an industry that has a lot of turnover that’s a tough ask (for a coach and his family).

I always thought Burrow would the eventual successor to coach Solich.

Would still like to see him get that chance, if he wants it.

I don’t know the man, have never spoken to him, etc. But i get the impression that he really likes being retired, and loves that his son is an NFL starting QB. He loses a vast amount of time to appreciate both of those things if he becomes a head coach (or even if he becomes a DC again)

Same - and I agree. The only way I see him taking it (and not sure I'd want him too) is as a favor to Albin - to help him keep his job - The Solich Mafia - "You do it for the family"

Sure, I can't believe he'd want to travel the country watching his son play football, hang with his wife and his two older children's families. I mean the draw of making a $150K a year at his age and after how many years he's put in would be almost impossible to turn down.

If all these new hires clean house then there should be somebody available.

He'd come into a staff that's on a hot seat. I'm sure he is friends with most of the staff but he'd also be working for a guy that he outranked on the staff four year ago. I'd put this in the very unlikely category.

Do the Burrows still live in Athens? Why not Jimmy? If he's still interested in coaching of course. I don't think the money matters. His son is a multi millionaire. Seems like perfect situation. Dc plus associate head coach title would be the way to go. If it doesn't work out it doesn't. I could guarantee our run d would immediately improve though.

No, money does not matter! But you really think Jimmy wants to miss his son's career? He already missed most his youth games, Junior High games, 1/2 of all his high school games, his junior year at LSU. Anyone who thinks going back into coaching would trump spending time with his family at this stage in his life and Joe's career is either smoking something or needs to reduce the dose of edibles.

And yes, they live in the home that Joe grew up in.

I knew that was sarcasm. I was just adding my 2 cents.

If he loves coaching and still wants to do it why wouldn't he? I venture to say the job is his if he wants it. I wouldn't blame him if he chose the other path but there are parents who don't live their entire lives vicariously through their children. It is possible to love your kids and let them live their lives without following them around forever, no matter what they do. tHe could still get to many Bengals home games and watch others on TV.

What do I know? I'm sure Jimmy has already dropped his resume off at the Convo and Peden Stadium. Will be interested when they make the announcement of his hiring.

You do realize that he gave up coaching to actually get to watch his son, and spend time with his other two sons and his wife, bonding over something very special to the family. If Jimmy still wanted to coach, he'd still be coaching, instead of playing golf 3-4 times a week with his best friends, and doing things he enjoys but was never able to do.

Yes and retirement announcements are always permanent especially in the sports world.

But if Jimmy were interested in the job and were to email a query to our AD, would she deign to read it and respond?

Just to give everyone a bit of a perspective.

Last night my wife and I went out to dinner.

Had on an OHIO shirt.

Guy stops at our table and says "Bobcat" ?

I said yes.
He says "What the _____ happened to you guys in football
this year ?"

Had a nice little chat about the goings on in Athens.
