I'll let others, the local BAers, help you with your questions.

I'm curious - do you have a son being recruited by Albin and his staff?

I'm sure others will chime in. Athens is a beautiful little town with an amazingly beautiful campus. Game days are fun and somewhat laid back. Tailgating is picking up on campus with Tailgate Park being a prime area. 24,000 seat stadium with no real bad seats, just some better than others.

If you love nature, this is definitely your spot. Great hiking here and the surrounding counties. Art community is alive and well here too.

As for food, depends on what you like but we have quite a few nice places. O'Bettys, The Pub, Jackie O's, The Pigskin, Big Mammas, Thai Paradise, Fusion Noodles, Larry's, Sol, Avalanche...

Breweries Jackie O's, Little Fish and Devils Kettle.

Keep in contact, we all can help you get around.

I was a student-athlete from 2011-2015, 2nd generation Bobcat. Met my wife my freshman year in the dorms.

I've never met anybody that regretted their decision to come to Ohio University. You can't find any place like it, the greatest town in the world.

Athens becomes a part of your soul, a place that most consider hOUme.

I played D1 soccer for O.U. in the mid 70's,when O.U. still had men's soccer.

Lived in Gamertsfelder,on the East Green.

I never heard of O.U. ,till my H.S. Guidance Counselor said she thought I'd like the school.

She was 100% on point.

As Spongebob ... said, I've never met anyone who regretted going there.

In fact, my younger brother followed me.

"Once a Bobcat, always a Bobcat" rings true with me.

Still try to get out to Athens every year or two.

One other great thing about O.U. "The Marching 110".
Check them out on youtube, you'll see what I ,mean.

You'll love the campus and town. Challenging weekend for a visit with the students being out and the basketball team on the road. If you look for a return trip consider Feb 4-6. Sibs weekend on campus (always a fun weekend as students invite their little brothers and sisters for the weekend - will give you a good idea of the "community" of the campus) and there is a home basketball game.

If it matters to you, Miller’s Chicken has been carry out only the last couple of times I’ve been there (this fall). Maybe some “townies” can confirm if that is still the case.

Welcome to Bobcat Attack and welcome to consideration of Ohio University although after walking these bricks I’m not sure what would be left to consider.
Athens is HOUme and gives the feel of a real college town. The football scene has changed during the Solich era from what it was during my days as a student. I’ve been a season ticket holder forever and the tailgating has picked up and we have a good crowd for Saturday games. I think all games this season on Saturdays were upwards of 20,000 and for a team that battled but under performed against expectations.
The facilities are decent. Walter Hall which you will see and possibly during your son’s time here he will see a new weight room.
Best of luck to both of you as he makes this decision and hopefully it’s Green and White.

Also I’m a sucker for Cheese Sticks at Lucky’s or Courtside Pizza if you are hungry.

Welcome to Bobcatattack! I hope you folks enjoy your visit to Athens. Great place. I have three degrees from this place!

I'm sure you are aware that we did not have a good season in football. First losing season since 2008. But we had three consecutive bowl victories before this season. Hopefully your son can see an opportunity to help the team get us back on track. And hopefully we have the degree program he needs. We are good academically.

Hi, DMull. Welcome to the community.

Like some others I latched onto Ohio through my HS guidance counselor. I wanted to get into broadcasting and he told me Ohio had one of the best Radio-TV schools in the country. I think they still do, although the focus is on more than just broadcasting these days. I'd never been to the campus when I start a little over fifty years ago (ouch) and like others fell in love with it immediately. Historian David McCullough calls it one of the most picturesque campuses in the nation and never fails to stop by when he's in the area. The most beautiful time generally is from April to mid-November, although winter can be lovely too.

As your son is watching some of this past season's games, he should keep in mind that it was a strange year. Long-time coach Frank Solich retired in mid-July for health reasons, so fall camp was a bit confused and it continued into the regular season. We're hoping for better results next season.

I have a 20-year-old son who is in his third year at Ohio. He had visited there several times as he was growing up and never really considered going anywhere else. As I do, he enjoys the small-town feel of Ohio. It's easy to get lost at larger schools because they have so many kids to deal with. Ohio is a bit more intimate and the people are very friendly. There's also quite a lot to do on campus for entertainment.

I hope you enjoy your visit to Ohio.

We will get by.
We will get by.
We will get by.
We will survive.

As a faithful Bobcat and fellow vet, I too welcome you to BA.

When I was in high school, my dream was to go to Arizona State and play baseball. Two things in the summer after my junior year altered that dream. One was while playing American Legion ball and learning humility at the left arm of Grant Jackson (who went on to pitch 17 seasons in the majors). The other thing was my high school making me a delegate to Buckeye Boys State which at the time was being hosted by OHIO. While at Boys State I learned of its J-school. I asked its location on campus and one afternoon made my way there. I asked the receptionist if anyone could tell me about the school. Minutes later I was chatting with Dr. Lorin Horton, the school's director. He spent an hour selling me on the school. I opted for its public relations division.

The morning after graduating from OHIO, I volunteered Army. When the Department of the Army saw my OHIO degree, it decided it needed an Army correspondent and liaison specialist in Korea. Fast forward to the end of my deployment. Just four weeks after returning to the States, I was beginning my career with General Electric in New York. Shortly after I started, the boss of my unit hired a new graduate - Eli - of Columbia University's J-school. I asked the boss why he hired me before Eli. His reply: "That was easy. It was the combination of your Army experience and your degree from Ohio University."

I am the oldest of 10 family members to make their way to OHIO. It's where I met my wife - whose ashes - per her request - I sprinkled in the Hocking.

Nice to have you here, DMull, as another Army vet. I got here after discharge in '70 and never left. Place grows on you!

I apricate it Oldkatz From one Vet to another Thank you for your service!

To all the Vets out there, looking forward to going to Metlife on Saturday to
