At least six Wyoming players have entered the portal, including the projected starting RB for the bowl game. Apparently they're down to a RS freshman, a true freshman and a walk-on at RB, with a total of zero carries this past season. Two of their top three RBs are injured and the other was kicked off the team. Their top rusher right now is QB Andrew Peasley, 70 carries for 330 yds. https://trib.com/sports/pokes-projected-arizona-bowl-star...

I want 10 wins. This team deserves 10 wins. I like the bowl. It has us reaching a different audience than usual for this year.

Crush Wyoming!

What a day at the Convo.....Wow!

Being in the portal doesn't make them ineligible for the bowl game does it? And, I'm not buying the injured RB stories after the "Finn is hobbled and can't run" stories before the UT game.

This year is definitely rough with Airfare $800+ roundtrip. You can get some European fares for that. But we are going to see our senior daughter in 110 one more time. We were going to fly in to Vegas and drive down because airfares were 1/2 the cost of Phoenix. My sister lives in Phoenix and we did that a couple years ago. If anyone is still trying to make it out there, Vegas is about 6!hour drive, but lots of cool stuff to see along the route like Vegas, Grand Canyon, Flagstaff, Sedona, and Prescott.

We were able to find some flights home from Phoenix using Frequent Flier points and staying with my sister in Phoenix part of the trip cut costs. But the one way flight into Phoenix was still $440 😳

I lived in Phx for a couple years right after graduation, 2015-2017. $440 is definitely slightly inflated, we would expect to spend $350-$380 typically at any point in the year through Southwest. That's why we flew Frontier or one of the other knock off airlines whenever we could.

You hear yourself, right?

The older folks who love watching cable TV you keep referring to aren't the target demographic. Not for Ohio University. Not for prospective players.

What you just said is why it makes perfect sense. They're targeting the demographic you dismiss entirely, just because they don't watch TV.

"Gen Z" (ya know, the actual kids who are going to college and playing football) find their sports and entertainment from other media platforms.

cbus cat fan wrote:

Therefore, the Bobcats would have had a much higher viewership had the game been on one of the ESPN channels.

Therefore, No.

The bowl ANNOUNCEMENT was viewed more times than any OU game on ESPN this year.

"YOUNG PPL DONT WATCH TV, SO WHY MARKET TO THEM AT ALL??!"

It's about eyes. 30 seconds or 30 minutes. It doesn't matter. This is free publicity for Ohio University. Millions of dollars in exposure. I understand you're upset, but you'll figure it out. You're not the target audience. Hundreds of thousands of eyes ages 16-22 are finding OU, even if by accidentally, that wouldn't normally find it.

Correct.

See where it's OHIO -1 in the early line. This one's not going to be easy, but I think it is winnable, even with our third-string QB. CJ has got a lot of heart. I think he'll bounce back from the UT loss. We should be able to run on Wyoming better than we did against the Rockets. That'll open up the passing lanes.

Here's a little something on our new marketing partners. Kind of surprising that the University agreed to hook up with Barstool considering their reputation.

It's not just Ohio, it's the MAC. We were basically told that this was our bowl game, so take it or leave it. If the allegations about racism and misogyny are true, the MAC needs to take a stand and boycott this bowl in the future.

It'll be interesting to see the quality of the broadcast. I'm not familiar with Barstool, but after seeing some of the stuff they have live online I'm not encouraged. The show I saw was some guys debating pizza. This morning they're debating comedy shows. When ESPN started they at least showed a competitive event (rodeo) all day, and have graduated to curling and darts as fillers. I plan to watch the game on Barstool but I'm keeping Russ and Rob handy for audio.

Two things here. 1) Theyíre not ďour marketing partnersĒ. They sponsor a bowl game.

And B) Should Ohio State boycott the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl due to their decades of shrill demagoguery and hundreds of millions of dollars in donations to anti-LGBTQ causes?

Sigh. For anyone who cares about facts...there was certainly nothing nearing "hundreds of millions" ever at play. The most recent criticism was donations to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes & the Salvation Army (gasp!). There are older charitable contributions to other Christian organizations way back in the days that Joe Biden was proudly and loudly fighting against same sex marriage. They've even stopped the Salvation Army & FCA donations, and have always given endlessly to local food banks and other causes...but nothing will ever appease the angry mob.

The attempts to cancel Barstool are also ridiculous on many levels. These people need to find a new hobby.

At least Chick-fil-a can point to SCOTUS's misguided decision in the Hobby Lobby case to support its discriminatory activities. I don't think Portnoy can claim any kind of religious basis for his actions. He's just a creep.

So if Barstool is such a great bowl broadcast option - then why are we vs a high major/P5 program the team/University on this pain in the ass/extra work-time to get on platform? If it is so great then they should all be clamoring to be on it - eh?

What was the alternative? What would-be sponsor offered the Arizona Bowl more money but was told to pound sand? What bowl did Ohio turn down?

I think the MAC told us where to go! We might have had some input, or a veto right, but I don't think the decision was really mainly ours.

Regardless of what you think of Barstool (Iím definitely not their biggest fan) this bowl game will undoubtedly have more marketing and effort put into it than 95% of non-playoff/new years bowl games.

https://twitter.com/barstoolazbowl/status/160595740190292...

There will be a pregame show which among others includes 9 year NFL player Will Compton, there will be fireworks, a bald Eagle flying into the stadium, and other fanfare.

You donít have to pay Barstool anything to watch this, so just have your phone or the other tab on the power 105 website ready to have Russ and Robís commentary playing and mute the game if needed. Should be a good game to watch.

It's interesting reading the comments to Barstool's announcement on its website. I realize they're mostly trolls but there's a general "meh" attitude about this game. The funniest comment was that the teams are the high school from Glee vs a barber college. I guess people want every game to be a marquee matchup, so viewership probably wouldn't be great on any platform. I would rather we have faced a team with a better record but only three MWC teams had better records than Wyoming -- as champs, Fresno was committed to another bowl; Boise, which might have soured the milk after backing out last year; and AFA, which has ties to military-themed bowls.

Please explain this joke to me, which one is the "high school from Glee" and which is the "barber college." Wyoming is high in elevation. That's kind of the only hint I get. Ohio University may be many things, but I've never heard us confused with a barber college. If it was supposed to be funny, it falls flat with me. Maybe, I'm not hip enough! After all, I'm certified nerd.

I just watched the tweet from Barstool posted above about all of the hoopla that will take place for this game and was waiting for them to announce when the dog and pony show would begin. I was beginning to think I had a flashback and was viewing an XFL commercial or Vince McMahon announcing WWE. Really impressive, it is just that none of the other bowls being played this season took that type of approach to a segment about their particular bowl or any bowl for that matter. Think ESPN/ABC will try the same approach for the National Championship in football at any level, either D-III, D-II, FCS or FBS?
