ND QB Minchey backtracks. Going to UK instead of Nebraska.

Now we don't face him in game #1

FWIW....

So far, I count 6 Rockets following Crandall to UCONN. I find it very entertaining to look at the current MAC players in the portal and see if they end up anywhere.

If you were to tell me Texas Tech would throw money at a Defensive Lineman from Akron, I would immediately think "How in the hell did Akron get him in the first place?" Non-qualifier?

BG has 6 players already signed with other schools. 5 of those schools are decent P4's.

Julien Laventure. Talk about a whirlwind. From Akron to Texas Tech and their new oil money.

I think whats happening these days are P4's aren't investing as much in HS OL/DL development, outside those Top 100 type guys. It's so hard to get to weight and even harder to maintain it, there aren't a ton of 300 pound high schoolers with skill and good feet. Those guys head to LSU and are earmarked for the NFL as freshman. Laventure was a 230 pound DT in HS. These type of tweeners end up at the Akron's of the world, put on weight, work on their skills and THEN get cherry picked off G5 rosters once they've proven they can play with and maintain skill at much heavier weights.

Weaver came to OU at a svelte 235. Was up to 267 by the time he got to Rutgers.

Crable was around 200 in HS. He's up to 240 now. Off to FAU.

I wonder if anyone like ON3 has done any research around that, if there are fewer HS lineman recruits on P4 rosters.

We've been the beneficiary of a couple of those types all across the OL who started small at D2 and/or JUCO.. Heidecker, Trent Allen, Maldanado, Waite, Manarino.

Hopefully they can do some digging and find some gems on the DL, cause we're getting decimated this offseason.

Big news out of Seattle today where UW's Demond Williams signed an NIL contract for $5M and 4 days later says he plans to enter the transfer portal (rumor is he's being courted for $7M by LSU). Problem is the contract Williams signed specifically stated he would not be allowed to enter the transfer portal if he signed the NIL deal. What a mess this is going to turn out to be in court.

7th year senior.

He hasn’t a played a ton so I’m sure that factored in, but he’s played in 5+ games every season since 2022. He was in Bryce Young and DJ Uiagalelei‘s class.

Give my boy Parker another year. He’s played just as little from 2021-2022-2023.

If with Parker getting injured one year at UCF I don’t know how they wouldn’t grant it to him with current precedent.

Saw Anthony Colandrea is now the new QB at Nebraska. Would be fun to beat him twice in a row.

Interesting pickup for Fiami. QB David McComb, 6'4" 220lbs from Kansas. Dude enrolled in January 2025 and out the door on December 19, 2025.

Pains me to say it but FIAMI has been doing well in the portal. I'm sure they have plenty of NIL $$ to play with compared to us.

WR - Damarion Witten (via Ohio State)
WR - Devin Hyatt (via Arizona)
RB - Rodney Nelson (via Monmouth)
QB - David McComb (via Kansas)

S - Dillon Tatum (via Northwestern)
S - Ben Minich (via Notre Dame)

Some big time transfers. Those two Safety's were highly touted out of HS.

Miami isn't doing it with plenty of NIL money. The previous season Miami's NIL for the year was less than $100,000. The figure was closer to $85,000. TOTAL. For the ENTIRE team. That's next to nothing. They've been doing it the old school way and have actually been succeeding. Tip of the hat to them.

That is depressing. If you had told me that Fiami only had $100K, I would never have believed it. Here are 2 clips from Pete Nakos (On3/Rivals):

"That approach extended to NIL. Indiana does not operate with the largest budget in the sport. While the Hoosiers count billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban among their supporters, their roster spending checked in just under $20 million this season. Ohio State’s roster hovered around $35 million in 2025. Texas Tech topped $28 million. Miami, Indiana’s title-game opponent, was closer to $30 million."

"Last offseason, Indiana landed Cal transfer Fernando Mendoza, fending off Georgia and Miami and paying over $2 million to secure him."

We are F'd until we are not.

And, if I remember right, a costly penalty on a late scoring drive for Ohio.

I'm not sure that I would believe that Miami NIL figure. As I understand it, any NIL deal over $600 has to be reported to the college per NCAA rule, but the college is not under any obligation to report it further. In Ohio I'm fairly certain that the state Supreme Court would require this information be divulged if requested through FOIA. I'm not aware if anyone or any media outlet has yet asked for this information. Perhaps, one of the legal eagles on this board could enlighten us all about the status of Ohio college NIL money on the public record.

I saw on twitter that Austin Brawley was the top graded safety in the mountain west last season pretty cool seeing a former bobcat doing good.

How about former Bobcat Jett Elad. Spent two productive years at UNLV and just led Rutgers in total tackles. Really worked his way up from G5 to P5 starter.

I honestly didn’t realize Jett was stilling playing. Didn’t he graduate high school in 2019? But regardless that is impressive doing it at both levels. Like I said it’s always good seeing former bobcats doing well. Like said it makes you appreciate guys like Dj and Adonis. Brawley and Adonis were in the same class one left and probably got paid more but a little tricky since he went with Spence Nowinski and the same goes with Dj and Jalen same class one stays and the other one transfers for more money.

Seems like a lock of a case in contract law, but we will see. Problem with all this is anyone can be an NCAA NIL agent. Hopefully they pay! Problem is, agent aint the one paying as they get paid up front.

I think you know that that's not a reasonable analogy. There is no federal law protecting the confidentiality of university or NIL collective payments to athletes. The most analogous case is State ex rel. Toledo Blade v. University of Toledo Foundation. This was a 7-0 unanimous decision of the Ohio Supreme Court. NIL Collectives in this regard are very much like university foundations in that their sole reason for existence is to the support the university with which they are affiliated. If a NIL collective associated with a state university in Ohio tries to claim some sort of independence that shields them from FOIA requests as did the UT Foundation, I predict they will be greeted with the same rebuff by the Ohio Supreme Court, if the case gets that far, as did the UT Foundation.

Really? Tell that to the universities that have used it already. Try it, share your results. Put your money where your brain is at. File an FOI and ask about Jerimaiah Smith’s NIL! Evidently you know how to do things others don’t.

I think a media outlet with deeper pockets will do this sooner rather than later. I don't at the moment have the resources to appeal through the court system, but I have very little doubt what the ultimate result will be. Want to go double or nothing on that chicken dinner that I owe you?
