I wonder who QB2 is. I expect that multiple QBs will get time since the announcement was late. FWIW, if Davis was a possibility as a starter, I am not sure I would want to send him to the wolves in Nebraska.

Poulos as QB1: This is either a booming endorsement of Poulos, or a knock against the young QBs. I'd go with the former. Let Poulos cook.

We can't automatically assume we'll get destroyed by Nebraska by 40+ points.

I don't see a bunch of wolves in Lincoln tbh, and Matt Rhule is always that coach who talks a big game but often doesn't deliver.

According to The Post, Poulos "edged out" Levi Davis. I'm guessing the reporter was just throwing that out there with little research.

Pete Thamel said it came down to Poulus and Vezza. So QB2 must be close, which is what most of us thought anyway.

No surprise. At least not to me. He's the veteran. He's massive. Going on the road to not necessarily winnable - but there's a path to an upset (Coming for you again, Colandrea) - going with Poulus makes the most sense.

I still expect to see Vezza in that game, and wouldn't be remotely shocked if he was the starter come MAC play. Hopefully, Poulus is doing so good we don't need to think about QB2/QB3, but Vezza is nice. He just needs to catch up presumably to Poulus biggest strengths, which is playbook knowledge, WR timing, and ability to read the defense quickly. The redshirt era is dead, but I think Davis needs some time. And Vezza is just a JR.

Time for the defense to show up and show out.

I'm optimistic for this year. And more optimistic on the road vs a Big 10 opponent than I normally would be. Probably more of a cover than a win, but as always - happy to see a yardstick game. Excited to see the defense eat up Colandrea. Lets break off the rust, see where the dust settles. We have a strong opportunity to start the season 3-1. Then circle the calendar for Kent State. Let's make a little noise, shall we?

Hang tough with Nebraska (and possibly win) and beat Jax State and it will be a really good year I think.

Nebraska is breaking in some new pieces. Dana Holgorsen can have struggles with new QBs so I could see Ohio's defense forcing some TOs.

Run the ball well, play keep away and hit the shots you can get.

It's easier to go from Poulus to Vezza early in the season. More difficult to do the opposite. When you let the newcomer give it a go from the start then yank it and go back to the known commodity, it sends a pretty big message and feels like giving up on the newcomer. Same point is even moreso true with the freshman Davis.

NBR, but Miami lost starting QB Thomas Gotkowski to a season-ending injury. They turn to Kansas transfer David McComb, highly touted but hasn't played yet.

I think Poulous will exceed expectations. But if not, "que sera sera."

Best guess based on things I've heard:

If Poulus struggles in first 2-3 games, they will switch to Vezza. There will be packages for Davis regardless. Davis is the real deal. I think the concern is freshman/experience. If he proves himself in those packages first half of the season, and Poulus/Vezza don't deliver, Davis probably gets a shot to start.

Hype will be heading back to California.

Powlus has been in the Bobcats system for a few years now. Coach Isphording has done an excellent job developing Ohio QBs for many years. All of us are excited to see the frosh QB from Olentangy, but it is very difficult for a true freshman to step right in at QB at the D 1 level and play right away.

I am hopeful but I am not necessarily geeked up about the starting backfield of Poulous and Brune. I hope I am proven wrong. Navarro-Tyus and Navarro-Sieh was frigging outstanding.

I have little concern when it comes to Brune (or his backups). I recall one game last year (v. UMass I believe) he hurdled one defender for a nice gain and later ran over a linebacker for another nice run. He's one of the fastest, if not the fastest, runner on the team. I'm not sure anyone is sure about Powlus (for SBH's sake), but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and trust OUr coaching staff.

Exactly, remember none of us had any idea what Parker would become because there just wasn't enough tape and he was behind KR. It took him half a season to really start flashing what he was capable of. Before we knew it, we were on a huge roll.
