He would be by some rating systems the highest ranked recruit ever. 247 sports shows offers from VCU , Clemson snd most of the ones listed above. I don’t know if he attended the game yesterday but if so that probably helped him- it was a good weekend to be on campus. If all these guys end up coming and they’re as good as their rankings, great days are ahead. Of course if that all happens how do we keep Boals?

Walter Luckett was a three-time high school all-American. He wasn't just the Connecticut Player of the Year. He was the 1972 National High School Player-of-the-Year! For his senior season, Walter AVERAGED a triple double: 39.5 points, 16 rebounds and 13 assists--insane numbers for a 6-4 guard. It's literally impossible for any Ohio recruit to ever be ranked higher than he was. I understand these particular rating systems weren't around back then. But 5-Star and others were and he was at the top of the list.

According to 247 and other information, AJ also had offers from Alabama and Penn State. 247 rates him #128 nationally, #173 composite of all services. Any rating top 300 is very impressive

I don’t know how it works on staff, but I have to believe that Lamar Thorton’s impact in the recruiting circle is paying huge dividends. Hopefully, he got a nice raise after the season. I think this is one to keep an eye on in terms of making that next jump to a head-coaching position.

We are recruiting at another level right now. Boals has it dialed it in and it’s everything we ever wanted for this program. Hats off to the staff and and current/former players on selling the program to recruits. And yes, I believe the Jason Preston NBA factor is huge as well.

Great news. Boals is killing it. I’m sure being able to point to Preston helps show guys you can come to OHIO and be successful and the NBA will notice.

I was told there were some basketball recruits at the game, so I'd guess he was one of them. Apparently Hadaway was one of them too. Not sure how many were there.

Very observant of you TBC of the broadcasting challenges Russ will face if all of this comes to fruition. I’ll add that I think Miles (and Michael) Brown may make it even more difficult to figure out who is who. :)

I most certainly wasn't trying to play gotcha here, colobobcat66. Just looking to be factual. I went to school with Walter and have known him personally now for 50 years. You probably aren't aware that his high school jersey is in the NATIONAL Basketball Hall of Fame. He was that exceptional. Another little known fact: he was averaging 45 points per game when he hurt his knee toward the end of his senior season, yet continued playing. That brought him down to 39.5 at season's end.

Surgery was different back then. He had to undergo the knife and it cost him some lateral movement, so we didn't get to see the baller people in Connecticut marveled at for four years. But he was still darn good. I've asked Walter many times over the years what school would he have attended if he never had gotten hurt (national powers North Carolina and Maryland were in his Final 4--they wanted him to sit out his freshman year and let the knee get stronger; he wanted to play). He may have still attended Ohio. We'll never know either way how great he truly could have been...

Now onto the topic at hand: coach Boals is doing a masterful job at securing talented ballers. The staff is identifying players they may have a chance to get involved with and are jumping in early, like when they're sophomores. Then they're closing the deal getting commits, and hopefully Letter of Intent signings--BEFORE they play their season seniors and blow up so large they may be enticed to de-commit and attend Power 5 schools. This is what I expected from coach Boals when he was hired. I figured if he could get 4-stars to attend Ohio State, he could at least get a stream of 3-star players to come to Athens.

Maybe he wants to earn a 3rd or 4th degree (which would be more than some big major's entire roster).
