I'd be less annoyed with it if the seats were filled. Theyre usually empty even for higher attended games. Who wants to start a petition to eliminate the Bobcat Black seats for next season?

They seemed to sell well at the beginning. Is that no longer the case?

Count me in. The only argument for the seats is a misguided one with respect to the donation/money. Misguided on two fronts. 1. That it is a zero-sum game and these donors would not be providing funds to the program if not for the seats, and 2. The seats are THE perk (and the only perk) that provide the value sought. There are any number of perks, benefits, and access that could be provided to such donors.

Or move them to the end line, behind the basket, where the band used to sit

I don't think the Bobcat Black seats are moving anytime soon, even with a petition.

Moving them behind the basket? Wouldn't there have to be several rows? Why would someone pay good money to sit behind someone on the court? I'd much rather sit in a regular seat where you can see.

I hate the black seats...They definitely take away from the student atmosphere, but $$$ talks too much.

Although there's much room for improvement, the student turnout and engagement last night was the best since Belmont. I say that from the perspective of the ESPN stream where the sound balance is kinda effed. There was clearly a crowd that wanted to be involved in the game, but just needs to be led.

Chase, if you're willing to take this on as a leader, here are some little things the section should work on:

-The O Zone needs to stand all game. It was so funny watching stand up, sit down, stand up, sit down during live game play. Take a break to sit if you need to during timeouts, but when the ball's in play, stand up and keep encouraging others to do the same.

-Do some kind of organized chanting on at least every other offensive and defensive possession, even if it's the generic stuff. But also look for opportunities to really stick it to the opponent in an organized way > "You can't do that", coach getting upset at the refs "Sit down shut up", "Airball" every time the airball shooter gets a touch the rest of the game.

-Every three pointer or dunk should send the section into delirium. Check out the immediate reaction on Tommy's first three pointer: https://youtu.be/T-LH_DLuu6I?t=298 . That should be the reaction on every three. Go right into that Cameron Crazies "Ohh" thing for the next defensive possession, know what I mean? https://youtu.be/ju36CxKmgGw

-Tommy hit a three at about the 2:20 mark in the second half to put us up 10. I thought that was a huge moment in the game when not only the students, but the entire building should have risen to its feet. There was a big immediate reaction but then it went silent pretty quick and BG calmly made a three on the next possession. That possession really needed to be sustained LOUD noise. In fact, from the moment on, in an under 10 point game, every defensive possession should have had something.

We should have two more wins going into the next home game, a primetime national TV date with the other clear contender in this league. Big opportunity to that we are undoubtedly the best home atmosphere in the conference.

When BG's center fouled out last night, it would have been a perfect opportunity for the "left, right, left, right" chant. My alma mater's fans do this every time a player fouls out. Every time he takes a step, you say the name of the foot he used, and then scream "SIT DOWN!" when he sits. It often leads to some fun gamesmanship because the players know this is coming, so they'll fake sitting down.

Chase - was encouraging to hear that the section was already full when you got there - just means you need to arrive earlier. Remember, you only need 15 - 20 others to join in to do what shabamon is talking about - others will then join in.

A row, maybe two deep. Set up a small little private bar(when concessions are allowed) behind the seats for the members (beer, wine, water, popcorn, dogs). Easy to fit - I was looking at the space last night during the broadcast. Have an assistant or even just a GA provide a quick pre-game strategy to members in a private room (nothing proprietary - just the basics they give e the media). Easy to set up perks to replace the seat location.

$$$ wants attention, accommodations, and to feel part of the program. Easy to create perks such as these.

I agree with all of this. I need to get a group together to get there 1 hour + early for the Toledo game. I'm going to see if I can piece a committed group together for Friday and run with it.

always good to "borrow" the chants folks know (even though I hate the yanks and Jeter). e.g., next time Carter is having a game like last night or makes a great play - grab the Derek Jeter chant. Works work for "Van-der Plas" as well after he hits a few 3s

Great idea! Was also thinking "BVP!" and "One More Year!" since Vander Plas has a year of eligibility left. Might as well use any types of those chants when some of our guys are having great nights.

excellent effing yea!! - both are great - BVP is great play off of MVP - love it.

And certainly MVP when Sears is at the line (the way he's playing it should be deafening!!!) (I know its POTY/POY - but everyone knows MVP)

Its all about noise and staying engaged - you're on it. Team will love it!!!

Definitely will consider the MVP chant for Sears. That dude deserves it! To top it off: I'm heavily debating making a poster for next game that reads: "BVP, One More Year?" I'm sure he'd be pretty tickled to see that!

I beg you, don't bring back/"borrow" the "you suck" chant at the end of "Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, hey, hey, hey, goodbye" when a player fouls out. While I hear this chant by most student cheering sections upon a foul out, I think the old O Zone was the only section I heard the "you suck" add on. Always cringe-worthy.

Like Greencat said in another thread, no "get off my lawn" responses, please.

Why is it cringe worthy? I would say its unoriginal but cringey? I disagree. I think the fans feed off the "you suck" part because that always seems to be emphasized more than the rest of the cheer aka is louder.

Plus, its fun to yell "you suck" at an opponent.

I agree with this. I cooked up a chant idea regarding that if an opposing player fouls or misses a shot:

"*playername*... *playername*... *playername*... YOU SUCK! IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT!!! IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT!!!"

Love the “one more year” chant for BVP.

Make it happen and he’ll love it.

As an old-timer myself, I have to say that the "you suck" chant the O Zone used to do is VERY BAD and under no circumstances should the student section bring that back next Friday at 6 PM against Toledo.

Let me reiterate, under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you idiot college kids say the word "SUCKS" during our game on Friday, January 21st. It will be offensive to me, an old person, and also our opponents, the Toledo Rockets, next Friday at 6 PM.

I might just walk down to the student section before tipoff and tell those young whippersnapers to watch their language. This will surely have the impact I am looking for :-)

I've seen crazier things happen.

This is obvious satire, a mode of communication that TO has perfected. He's really good at it. Here he's playing the part of Uncle Remus telling about the rabbit and fox and the brier patch.

Let me add that originally -- back when the Ozone used the "suck" chant -- I didn't like it. However, that was before it became obvious to me that that word today no longer carries the connotations it did when I was in school. The meaning of the word as evolved, as words often do, so I'm now more than comfortable with it's use in the context of that chant. My wife, however, has not adjusted her thinking and is still offended by it. And, yes, she still thinks we would have won that MACC game against NIU if we had had shuttle buses for our fans like NIU did from the hotel to the stadium! So there is that to consider! :-)

Get copies of The Post or A-News for the next home game. During starting lineups have the student section turn around and read the paper. Yell "Sucks!" after each opposing player is introduced. Have them crumble it up and throw them in the air during our starting lineups. Completely unoriginal, but it looks good and gets the students engaged early. Get them jumping on the tip off. Encourage them to stand the whole game.

Chase, a lot of the stuff that has been suggested recently was standard O Zone fare back in the day. Like "sucks" in the starting lineup.
