The national anthem today was sung in the warble like crazy school of anthem singing. Apparently auditioning for the Voice by singing the national anthem is how it is done but as someone who grew up in a household whose mother was a trained opera singer, it was painful to listen to today.

All I know is that when the singer starts with "Ho-ho say can you see...," it's gonna be an interesting 2 minutes. She failed to enunciate half the words, and the weird phrasing was just painful. I'm hardly a traditionalist - my favorite rendition remains Marvin Gaye's prior to the NBA All-Star Game - but that performance was all about her, not the flag.

It had to be one of the longest versions with odd emphasis placement and pauses. Her voice was nice just was a strange performance. I always try to sing along quietly (for those around me) but it was impossible Saturday. I guess it was a glimpse into the second half performance we watched by our team.

What you're missing is the bigger picture and the years ahead. Sibs Weekend is a great recruiting tool for the university and in many cases, gets current students in the Convo who might not normally go. When you have all those new eyes on the game and you lay an egg, many of those folks just won't come back.

Over 6,300 in the Convo today, a good crowd size in 2025, but a so-so, weeknight crowd in the previous century.

Alan's point stands, however. You want to put your best effort forward in front of the largest crowd of the year, or one of the largest crowds. Send them home happy.

By comparison, 9 of the 12 games in the SBC-MAC challenge today (all at MAC sites) had crowds less than 2,000. Miami, giddy about drawing 7,900 last Saturday for its game v. Ohio, drew a whopping 1,800 today.

UT (4,400) and Ball St. (3,400) joined Ohio in getting crowds that topped the 2,000 threshold.

Boy, has the MAC fallen big time. Not just in quality of basketball, but also in getting fans in the door.

On a positive, the MAC did win 8 out of 12 today v. the Sun Belt. And, a MAC team, Akron, now holds the nation's longest winning streak with Duke and Auburn losing today. Although that might be more of an indictment on the strength of the league than a compliment for coach Groce's team.

This floors me. Miami gets nearly 8,000 (paid) in a feel-good win against their rival and can only muster 1,800 a week later. They literally have to bribe people for attention. Akron riding now the longest win streak in the nation and only 1,600 on a Saturday in an urban enough locale?

We live in a Butler County school district that neighbors Oxford/Talawanda, and there are always gimmicks to get kids to their games.

My son earned free tickets through a school reading program for Miami's home game against Kent and their women's game the next day against EMU. Think I will need to wear blue and gold that night ; ). I want to encourage him to read and grow, and I didn't have the heart to say these tickets are much more of a punishment than a reward for his hard work!

The Ivy League has been better than the MAC for a few years, but wasn’t expecting the Horizon and Sun Belt and Southern conferences to be rated higher.

I see a few of the natives are a little disgruntled about the head coach and his lack of recruiting bigs. Better be careful, because many on this board will shred you for negative remarks regarding the highest paid coach in the conference. But hey it will be ok, because the regular season doesn’t count.
