The University has published an RFQ for $15 million in improvements at the Convocation Center.

Per the description "This project will involve planning and renovation of building systems at the Convocation Center. The Convocation Center was built in 1969, has
296,711 square feet and serves primarily as a sports arena, event space, and dorm. Several significant renovations have taken place since it was
built but key systems are in need of replacement."

Nothing Sexy, but there is a chance we may get our elusive new hand dryers.

We have had new hand dryers for a few years now. I think most/all of the bathrooms have both an old vintage one and a new Dyson one.

It will be interesting to see what improvements are part of the project. I am hoping to see exterior lighting improvements along with complete bathroom renovations. Maybe the dorms will be refreshed as well. I assume a lot of the systems/mechanical/fire/electrical improvements will not be noticeable.

Exterior lighting improvements are a definite need. More than almost anything else.

Agreed. A sports fan not familiar with the university could practically drive at night on Richland and not know the Convo is there. I miss the facade lighting of years ago. It was impressive.

When Alden Library was being built I remember talking to a construction guy who was working on the library. He told me that in the construction of the library they were cutting corners all over the place and it was not going to be well built. He then said that Convo, on the other hand, was built with state-of-the-art techniques and materials. He said he had worked on both projects, so he knew what he was talking about. Not too long after that I remember that the brick facade on one side of Alden fell off and had to be replaced. So, I suspect that the improvements that will be made to the Convo will not involve much basic infrastructure, but will be making it look prettier and adding additional functionality and replacing things that have undergone 50 years of wear and tear.

$15 Million is not that much, and you would be amazed what all needs done before you even get into the beautification projects.

110% Agree. And given that lighting technology has improved drastically over the last decade, it should be a no brainer to restore a look that is similar to those looks we're thinking of.
