I agree. This was a chance to really make a statement with the new field design, and they went with something pretty vanilla, I absolutely love the "My State. My Team." slogan they've adopted, and I really wish that could have been portrayed with the new turf. I would have loved to see the state outline at midfield, similar to the old Convo floor or the new turf Illinois installed before last season. At the very least I would have liked to see OHIO behind the Attack Cat.

We have the best brand name in the MAC, and one of the best in the country, We need to start utilizing it even more.

NCAA guidelines says the midfield logo can not go beyond the 2 hash marks, to make the full logo fit the Attack Cat would have to be shrunk down significantly to fit OHIO behind it and still fit between the hash marks. Although they might have planned on changing it at this point it looks like its staying the same.

It was three days ago that Jason Grooms said it was changing...

Maybe they simply took out the old carpet and sent it to the cleaners and are reinstalling it...   haha.

I still can't believe they are not putting a pad under the carpet.   This really looks to have been done on the cheap. Heck even highschools are paying the additional $50K for the padding.

Very dissapointed so far.

Well, if the rendering posted here at ohiobobcats.com today is correct, it will be pretty much the same.

I think the two very large "OHIO"s in the end zones emphasizes that point very nicely already.

That's true, and I do like how both endzones say "OHIO", rather than one "OHIO" and one "BOBCATS", but why not go all the way with it? From a TV perspective, how many times do you see the entire endzone versus midfield? I'd imagine the midfield logo gets a lot more camera time than shots of the endzone where all of "OHIO" is visible. I just think they really blew it from a branding and brand consistency standpoint.

I like the clean, simple look.  It matches our stadium's atmosphere well.  Something ultra modern like the one at Louisville would not mesh well in Peden IMHO.

if someone is good with photoshop- if you put the full logo over the above image of the field I'm guessing you'll see that when you fit the full logo between the hashmarks the actual Attack Cat will look really small and the logo itself will look too busy. Simplicity is key.

L'ville's old midfield logo had the Cadinal plus the name, the new one has just the Cardinal. Same with Boise State, they are adding a new logo which is just the horse head without the school name.

Personally, I 'd like to see a big ol green paw print at mid field, but that's just me.

OHIO in the endzones, clean and simple and distinct Attack Cat at midfield.  It works.

Splendid look.

I feel like this was done on the cheap...no padding, awful logo at midfield....complete lack of forethought here. You're stuck with this for the next 10 years now.

To me, that is not our logo. It's like you took an eraser to remove the "Ohio" part. If anything, I'd rather just have the arch Ohio at mid-field. The cat looks very high school-ish to me.

Not a big fan of the paw, but if you've got to do it, this would be perfect.  A green paw on a green field wouldn't bother me at all.  We could then have AttackCat right over the top of it, and it would look just great!

Considering the rash of injuries to our players I would have thought padding was a no brainer regardless of the actual cause of the injuries.  Minimize the risk and maybe you minimize a few injuries.   I'm guessing the hospital fees and rehab fees were far more than the additional $50K to install padding.

When the correct infill is added and worked in to the profile that field will be as safe as any out there. There could be more risk of injury with a too soft surface than a firm surface. You ever try running on a mattress? The padding is only needed when you are not using rubber infill. The old field was 12 year old technology that was designed to last 8 years which is part of why it was too firm.

Good Lord, the field doesn't make a statement, but who cares? The TEAM PLAYING ON THE FIELD makes the only statement that matters.

So, we can look ahead to Travis Carrie and the other players commenting on the "improved" qualities of the field. I hope so.

I expect this to one day be Solich Field and as such the current field would be just right.  Can you imagine a Solich Field that looked like it was designed for Oregon. Edit. I just looked at an image of Oregon's field.  Seems theirs has a simple "O" in the middle of the field.  Perhaps as you become more of a winning program your brand statement can follow the "KISS" principle.

There is nothing really wrong with the new field, it is "nice"

I think some were just hoping for something a little more edgy.

I did not spend a ton of time on this, but something along these lines would have been a little differnet and yet not too radical.  I included the arched Ohio behind the Attack Cat for those who wanted too see what this would look like.  I also could not decide if I liked the white endzones, so I kept one green.

Thats good to know.  I was recently part of a committee responsible for a field installation for our local highschool and we used the rubber infill plus we had the rubber pad under.  I'm guessing this may be a little different technology.

Bottom line.  It may not be flashy but I have to get over that as it is still a big improvement.   Plus I guess it reflects our style.  No frills but they get the job done....

I like your new design too. Not sure about the white "Ohio" at midfield...I've never really seen the logo used that way. Green with a white outline would look perfect, I think!

I've designed a number of Synthetic Turf fields using Field Turf. I've never heard of using padding (the official name is "E" layer) for a Field Turf installation.

I'm in the middle of a design project for a field so I asked Field Turf about using padding.

They said that their infill system is designed to eliminate the need for any type of padding.

A field's "hardness" is measued by what is called "G-Max'. The required "G-Max" is determined based on a field's primary use.
Every field I've done has exceeded the specified  G-Max, using  infill alone,

It is essential that a field be properly "groomed' to maintain the G-Max.

As another poster said, you don't want a field to be too soft or its like running in loose sand.
We try to set the G-Max to mimic the "hardness" of a natural turf surface.

I agree, they could have used the darker green shade of the end-zone for the arched Ohio.

I honestly really like what athletics has chosen for the field design.  It may not be super flashy, but It still looks clean and sharp.

I feel like having the Arch Ohio logo at midfield would oversaturate the field with the word Ohio.  It's already in both of the endzones, and having the word Ohio again in the middle seems really redundant.  They could of gone with "Ohio" in one endzone, and then "Bobcats" in the other, but I digress.

And to provide a different perspective on the argument of putting the actual word "Ohio" at midfield so that people will see it on TV games.... please.  I can point to you where you can find team's names on the screen at any given minute of the broadcast.  It's called the score bar at the bottom of the screen.
