I think he has to legally change his name to "Burreaux" now.

Can we finally move this worthless thread to General Discussion or cut and paste on whatever board LSU people read?

The deification of Mr. Burrow on the LSU fan website has begun as exemplified by a post like this: Joe Burrow has a basket full of groceries and let’s the elderly lady behind him with only milk cut in line in front of him at the cashier. And this one with a Cajun pronunciation spelling; A discrete entry in Burreaux's ancestral records reads: "C. Norris"

And the Bobcats have a date on New Years next year. Seems like a no brained in going to OHIO, that way he can play against the best.

The Hocking River runs into the Ohio River, the Ohio into the Mississippi, and near the wide ending of the Mississippi that empties out into the the vast Gulf of Mexico exists the passionate fans of LSU. Thankfully, Burrows floated past Athens long enough to put Athens High School on the map (Though a lot of sports columns keep calling it "The Plains" High School). This whole thing seems like the beginning of a Herculean Myth of Epic proportions. It seems as though the father in such myths, at least metaphorically, gets slain. Thankfully, Joe didn't go to Cincinnati or we might be talking about a Freudian Myth in the making. Ouch!!

Where the Ohio and Mississippi meet in Cario, Ill, the Ohio is the bigger river in terms of volume. According to standard geographical naming protocols the river south of there should have been the Ohio. The river up to that point would likely have been called the Minnesota, since that's where it originates. So Burrow can go to LSU, but he can't get away from the influence of the waters of the Ohio. ;-)

Here's a brief quote from Wikipedia about the size of the two rivers: "The Ohio River, which streams westward from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Cairo, Illinois, is the largest tributary, by volume, of the Mississippi River in the United States. At the confluence, the Ohio is considerably bigger than the Mississippi (Ohio at Cairo: 281,500 cu ft/s (7,960 m3/s);[2] Mississippi at Thebes: 208,200 cu ft/s (5,897 m3/s)[3]) and, thus, is hydrologically the main stream of the whole river system."

If Joe can manage to pull off a 9-3 season and throw for 3000 yards in the SEC; he will be a top 5 quarterback in the draft. Might not need to play an extra season.

Actually the official name according to the State is "The Plains" Athens.

No, it’s actually located in The Plains Township, that makes the High School “in” The Plains

Actually, BTC, there's no such thing as The Plains Township in Athens County.  There are 14 townships in Athens County.  They are listed below:

Alexander
Ames
Athens
Bern
Canaan
Carthage
Dover
Lee
Lodi
Rome
Trimble
Troy
Waterloo
York

The Census Bureau calls it a CDP -- Census Designated Place.  From what I can tell, it does not even have "village designation." The Census Bureau says it has a population of slightly over 3,000, which makes it big enough to be a village.  In reality, it's just part of the Greater Athens Metroplex! wink smiley

There is no 'The Plains Township'...the community of The Plains is in Athens Township.

Regardless, the Plains has its own zip code and is a census designated locale. And the fact of the matter is the school is The Plains Athens as reported by the State of Ohio. You have a problem with that, take it up with them.

Is Joey Mischler on campus yet? I know it is in Athens - not on or in any Plains?

How does he look? I understand he is a bit larger than reported. With other departures I'm assuming he won't redshirt. Thoughts?

With Rourke, Maxwell, and Keisei (sP?), I can't imagine we don't redshirt Mischler.

The City of Columbus has numerous zip codes, so I don't know what you are trying to say.

It's also not arguable that The Plains is in Athens Township.

Maybe it should be called Athens-Dover Township High School.

The official name from the state school officials is just bunch of gobbledygook left over from the forced merger of old AHS, The Plains HS and Chauncey-Dover Exempted Village High School. It really is fairly meaningless, IMHO.

Yes, but all those Columbus zip codes are contained within the same municipality. The Plains is not within the Athens municipality, and it has its own zip code and post office. It's not the same as Athens.

We all know that The Plains is not part of the city of Athens. But it is not an incorporated village and under Ohio law, it's first level of administrative authority is Athens Township which has its own elected officials (trustees, constable, etc.). The facts that it is a "census designated place" and has its own Post Office and its own ZIP code are irrelevant, as those are federal designations.

If the Feds had any real power Joe Burrow would've played for The Plains Bulldogs back in High School.

What does the fact that "Athens Township" is a legally designated political subdivision with elected officials have to do with the difference between "Athens" and "The Plains"? How many times have you heard someone say they are from "Athens Township"? No one does...people generally go by what their post office address is.

But let's just ask the school whether Athens High School is located in "Athens, Ohio," "Athens Township, Ohio" or "The Plains, Ohio":

Athens High School
1 High School Rd.

I don't disagree with your conclusion, I was just pointing out that having a separate zip code is not an indication of whether or not a place is within another city or not.

"On The Plains" is how long time residents of the area refer to that area.
