Both average around 13-14 pts, 3-4 boards and 3 assists. Jacobs leads the league in blocked shots. If nothing else, the pair relegate former starter Luke BumbalOUgh from starter to little-used backup. You think BRod saw his 3-pt shooting % decrease drastically, check out Luke's numbers. Yet, Ball St. announcers still refer to him as a sharpshooter.

If this game is close at the end I would consider the Hack-a-Sparks strategy.

Will students be back on campus for 2 homes games this week?

Probably not. Classes don't start until next Tuesday. The dorms do open at 9 Saturday morning.

Semesters are awful. Bring back quarters!

Better yet, real semesters rather the fake semester system virtually all Ohio school are on. 16 weeks = real semesters. 14 weeks = fake semesters. They claim that it's the same because they extend the instructional time of each class period so you are theoretically in class for the same number of total hours. But everyone knows that learning is frequently impaired with fewer actual class periods because in many classes with tougher material it takes time to absorb new material and be ready for the next lesson. At some point, I think, the Ohio Legislature will become aware of this scam.

“Real Semesters cost more money”. Why would we do that?

That be me and glad it didn’t happen. Great win. Part the D and switch to zone made a difference. Part Ball sucked. Bumbalough being out hurt from a shooting side. Note Boals did not play BRod much in the 2nd half. He came in late when it was foul shooting time. So rotation even tighter. Clayton hitting 3s is a big key. As I said a few days ago, when Clayton isn’t engaged and active, we are screwed. Hunter scored well but is still making poor decisions passing in transition. Baker is just bad. Can’t spin it any other way.
Dwight was the man tonight. Huge effort.

Thank you Ball State. Two turnovers and a three they didn't need to force in the last 30 to 45 seconds and it was game over.

Good win protected home court. This team was down 14 then up 14. Then had to hang on. Ball State good team. They are right there near the top with Akron, Kent State and Toledo. Ohio will be dangerous at home, but the inconsistent play will catch up with us. turnovers killed them early. We are a good team when we want to be. This team doesn't show up every nite. They could beat or lose to any team in the MAC. They took Michigan to overtime after getting waxed by Detroit then completely not show up at Florida and Marshall. There is some talent and Boals is a good coach. We got two months to figure it out.

Does anyone have an idea what EJ4 did to warrant a flagrant 2 and ejection? Boals and radio guys post game seemed to not really know.

Wiz is just such a liability.Boals has to figure out a way to limit the damage Wiz does. From the constant turnovers on offense to the stupid defensive fouls he becomes the opponents best weapon. I know DW3 is limited with the knee and stamina issues, but Wiz’s play is just beyond brutal.

One thing that I noticed at the very beginning of the game and texted a friend who was watching from home is that they were really hustling much more than in recent games. At first it seemed to backfire when we got that 14 point deficit, but they continued to hustle and the last five minutes of the first half were just incredible. That set the stage for the second half. I particularly liked the play of Wilson, Hunter and Clayton. Wilson seemed more aggressive than I've seen him in a long while. Clayton hit some real important 3s. Hunter seemed more to value possession more and was more consistent. Everyone was diving for loose balls and had more active hands. A good tune up for a much more difficult game on Friday. Go OHIO!

Baker shot poorly for sure but with 4 assists in his limited minutes that has to be acknowledged given I think we had 2 assists near the end of first half.

What an awesome win!

DW3, Clayton, and Hunter were scoring machines! This is what we need out of Jaylin Hunter -- of course he won't score 23 and get 4 steals every night -- but he was a leader out there. AJ Brown and Miles Brown also had nice nights with a couple steals. The game was won because of Ball State's 20 turnovers. 20!

This was one we needed to have. I really feel like this team is finding its footing hasn't come close to its ceiling yet.

Only caveat — We’ve seen Jaylin have scoring outbursts like this a few times this season then struggle. I’d argue we still need him to make better decisions with the ball (3 turnovers, 4 assists — not dishing to AJB on the fast break at the 10 min second half mark) more than score. This is not me trying to be a Debbie downer after a great win. Jaylin’s just proven games like last night scoring wise are the exception and not the norm for him.

Second game this season Jaylin has won for us, the other being YSU. Yes he still makes some wild attempts that lead to turnovers. I know it sounds weird to say from a 4th year D1 player but I still see some projection with Hunter as he gets experience with his team.

Wiz was really bad. For whatever reason we ask him to do more outside the paint than we do DW. Any time he stumbles up to the top of the key I just brace myself for the illegal screen or turnover. Then every time without fail we get the deer in the headlights negative body language. He's just really frustrating to watch at times.

Roderick starting was a reward for having good energy & effort in a game where most the roster lacked that at BG. But then...he rode the bench most the way while Clayton did his thing. Clayton's quick flick shot mechanics defy logic. It amazes me how high that ball starts in his hands. Many were calling for more energy and fire from Clayton and he brought it last night to the point he got a taunting tech.

Which by the way was a very weak call. Then to label EJ's as a flagrant 2 and an ejection was insane, I could not believe it. Two very poor calls in my opinion. Glad we overcame them or I'd be more pissed.

We missed several bunnies last night. 4-5 times I'm excited for the ball movement or lane driven to give us this bucket then cursing when we miss the finish. DW missed the most wide open dunk you can imagine. Miles had a very bizarre looking layup miss. It would've been a lot more comfortable with better finishes.

Crazy combo of good Ohio defense creating turnovers and bad Ball State offense handing us turnovers results in TWENTY total. Had to be an extremely frustrating game for Ball State fans.

Needed to get in the win column. Friday will be another near 0 line. You could argue we are starting with the 5 best in the MAC (BG may be a stretch to include in that but all I know is they looked great against us). If we can just protect home court before the schedule loosens up a bit, we can't be too upset about that. Need to avenge the semifinal loss to Kent on Friday.

Please look up the word sarcasm with my post. Yes, I know Boals didn't move Clayton to the bench because Fear Leon said so.

And I would have loved to seen Elmore get the start over BRod (0 points vs Ball State), but we can't have everything. Last night was a start and hopefully we can hold our own Friday night. Last year, we seemed to get off to really bad starts against Kent, Toledo and Akron in the first 10 minutes. We can't fall behind 18-4 ten minutes in.

STARTERS AGAINST ATHLETIC KENT:
PG: Hunter
SG: Miles
SF: James
SF: AJB
C: Wilson

BENCH:
1. CLayton for DW3
2. B-Rod for James
3. Baker for Miles
4. some combo of Wiz and Sheldon

That's the lineup. I would still love to see Olumide get some run but it looks like he will be done as a Bobcat. Why else would he be relegated if not hurt?

This isn't rec ball. We need to now play the combinations and minute delegations that give us the best chance to win. Unless you're going to press all game and try to run fast breaks for 40 minutes, no coach is going to routinely play 11-12 guys. That doesn't mean that all hope is lost for Olumide at Ohio.

What I like about Olumide is his energy and it seems like he knows his role. He’s not looking to shoot when he gets the ball and he’s that blue collar guy hustling. Still unsure why he hasn’t been given more minutes off that alone. Every team needs a player to do the dirty work/little things.

I thought this was the best defensive effort by the team this year. Good win. Looking forward to the Golden Flushes game Friday night.

The player I thought deserving of a taunting call was Coleman of Ball State. He hit a couple buckets in a row in the first half and gave it to the Ohio bench. Late in the game, when Hunter was walking to the line to take important foul shots, he followed Hunter up court talking to the back of his head. Then, as we were shooting foul shots, and Coleman lined up in the spot next to the shooter, one official gave Coleman “counseling” before the shots. Coleman smiled at him rather sheepishly. Just love it when we get charged with an infraction and our opponents get “a talkin’ to”. However, I will say justice was served when Coleman dribbled the hall off his toe to basically end any chance they had.

I know it's rarely called in this day and age, but I thought Coleman was carrying the basketball a LOT last night on that hesitation dribble. It's not enforced much but it was driving me nuts from my seat.

I noticed that as well. He was doing it just routinely bringing the hall up the floor too. Actually, a time or two, saw his hand exceeding just being directly under the hall and being largely on the half of the hall closest to his body.

Will EJ not be able to play all or part of the Kent game? Boals seemed to hint at that in his post-game interview. Is a flagrant two treated like a targeting call in football? I'm sure BTC can tell us. Floor is yours.

Semesters are awful. Bring back quarters!

I'm sure I'm one of the few (if any) Attackers that experienced both semesters and quarters.

Can confirm that semesters suck!

Spring Quarter in Athens, nothing better.

Not many can pull off the "untucked" look, Wiz is certianly not one of them.

Drops an easy chest pass and commits a foul and then immediately untucks the jersey.

We need better body language out of somebody that is getting that many minutes with that +/-.

Good win. The effort was consistent even after getting down 14 H1. Lot of good stats but the one I like best is 13 turnovers vs 20 for BSU - 13 is higher than I would like but not as bad as several games this year. Hunter had 3 early but then no more the rest of the game.

In the post game interview Boals talked about how they had made "deflections" a priority. He said that if they have 20+ they always win, and that they had 29 (I think) last night. I heard the players on the bench calling out deflections during the game so clear they have committed to this and executed excellently last night.
