I know this season is essentially Year Zero for any coach, but is there any chance Travis Steele is good and can turn that program around?

Look at how close some of their losses have been by...

@Georgia by 7
vs Kent by 3
vs NIU by 4
@Akron by 5
@EMU by 5
vs Toledo by 3

plus a solid win vs Buffalo

The Bobcats are going to need to bring it for 40 minutes to avoid another loss.

Agree with your general point - however we have not played Georgia. And according to the schedule and results on BA we beat Belmont - But did not - though it was a close one.

I think BA is reflecting the actual final score of the game after Clayton hit the clutch winning shot, and before the crooked refs added extra time on the clock.

Yes about the shady bogus ending at Belmont.

Georgia most certainly did play fiami this season.

Another casualty of the portal... do these guys care about rivalry games anymore? Half these guys weren't here 9 months ago, the other half won't be here 9 months from now. Tough scene.

They were around in early November when the football guys were playing fiami.

There had to be some talk amongst the athletic guys about a rivalry.

It's been too long but there have been great games between these two one-time MAC powers over the decades.

I can remember some of Danny Nee's NCAA-tourney teams taking on a Miami team led by Ron Harper, one of the best all-around players I've seen in the MAC back in the mid-1980s. I believe Herb Sendek's Miami teams with Devin Davis overlapped with Ohio's team led by Gary Trent, like Harper one of the best MAC player I've seen, in the mid 1990s. One of those games, I believe, was a Saturday matinee game where the ground was barren when you walked in but covered with several feet of snow hours later when you exited (pretty good memory, huh Shabamon?).

Too bad this generation hasn't seen this rivalry at it's peak. I'm rooting for Boals and Steele to get it back to what it once was.

Any BA posters have other memories?

Trying to cheer myself up, I looked up OUr recent success against Miami.

FOOTBALL
* Won 2 in a row, 7 of the last 9, and 13 of the last 16

MEN'S HOOPS
* Won 6 in a row, 13 of the last 15, and 20 of the last 23

Muck Fiami.

1992...Jamie Mercurio knocking in a long 3 late to send the game into OT and Miami beat Ohio in triple OT. The crazy thing is the day before on a Saturday Miami won at Illinois State.

Pretty darn good.

Of the ones I've seen in person, the one that stands out is actually not Gary Trent day (great college basketball game though. If it weren't for the ice storm that morning, every seat would have been filled) but a weeknight contest in 2009. I drove in from Cincinnati for the first iteration of Green Fever and "Two schools..." . This was also the game where that big Ukrainian kid took an official visit and a few O Zoners "borrowed" Ukraine flags from Gordy Hall. He ended up at Arizona, but there was a buzz in the building that we were in his top three or four. Blew the Redhawks out of the gym despite a ho-hummish season for us. Devaughn had a cool reverse dunk.

Others... the triple OT loss in 2011 which was peak O Zone (I snuck down there). That one had me physically exhausted. Huge comeback win at home in 2014, perhaps Travis Wilkins' best game in an Ohio uniform. Remember, he was already married when he played and someone asked in the postgame presser how do you celebrate a new career high "Ask my wife."

It was. And we had more than 10K in the building that day. That was a year we had POY Lewis Geter and were picked to win the league but ended up 4th.

That triple OT game was one of the best games and frustrating losses I saw in person as a student. Game started at 3, ended about 6:15 and I remember the mass throng of students trying to get into the Jeff Hall dining hall a minute before it closed.

So many Miami b-ball memories from Trent to Devin Davis to Charlie. Looking forward to being there in person tomorrow.

The Gary Trent jersey retirement game was one of the coolest memories I have when it comes to Ohio hoops. It was Dad's weekend and I was fortunate enough to experience that game with my dad (also an Ohio athletics alum).

That game truly felt like a major p5 game as far as energy and attendance. Without the ice storm, the Convo would've absolutely been filled to beyond capacity.

Court street was also on another level that night. It was hilarious watching people slip and slide heading back down Richland to West Green after the bars.

I believe that was Charlie Coles last game in the Convo as well. He retired at the end of the season, and then passed.

His moment in the hype video gave me chills.

Holding out on judging him until I see what he can do at this level over a long period with the type of players he can reasonably get to go to Miami. The close losses could be attributed just the attrition of the MAC, but they are playing much better than I expected. They did beat Buffalo. Even Ohio couldn't do that.

Also wondering how they'll handle the transfer portal just like I'm wondering how Ohio will in the future. They have guys from BC, Wofford, William & Mary and Cleveland State on their roster.

I believe that's correct. Couldn't have been a better turnout for his last game at the Convo.

I remember that well. I attended that one as a Dad. Great game, great atmosphere! That was before the switch to semesters which led to Dads weekend games landing on exhibition games. I never missed one while my kids were there.

Funny side story - I remember speaking with an ex Jackie O's bartender. He was adamant that Dads weekend was his favorite to work. Said we were all so deliriously happy to be there. Made for a fun atmosphere and great tips.

Just went over to the Fiami site to see what they're saying about the game. Neat article about Charlie Coles. While I hate those guys, MAC basketball lost a great one in him.

Be careful, that Townie is on this board, and has been for many years. He’s a true, blue Bobcat, despite his youthful rebellion that sent to him to That School in Oxford. He’s really a nice guy!

Ticket sales looking pretty good. Could be in for a 9K+ type crowd, which would be impressionable. Attendance does matter.
