Boals is the “mad substitution scientist”.

No AJ Brown (and again no report on what is going on there) and he takes Elmore out before 16 minute mark for Devon Baker who is dreadful…I mean dreadful. He shouldn’t even be playing. Give Elmore all the minutes and keep Baker on the bench, who through the first half against Miami has now gone 2 1/2 games without scoring. Not only that, but he is so bad with situational awareness basketball. The foul late against Michigan and then foul in last 5 seconds in first half against Miami to give them an opportunity for points. Bench Baker and develop Elmore. Elmore is a big part of the future moving forward. Baker is not. Baker has been a frustrating addition to this team. An absolute whiff by Boals and Co. He plays with no fire and can’t make shots. Thank god he’s only here for one year.

Memories can, as us oldsters know, be tricky devils. In the early 90s, a couple days before an Ohio Saturday home game, my son Ben phoned and asked what I was planning for the weekend. Nothing major, I replied. Said Ben, How about getting together to watch the basketball game? Sure thing, said I.

The drive from North Canton to Athens was spectacularly sunny. Here's my memory - flawed though it might be: The opponent was Xavier. Ohio walloped the visitors by something like 95-75.

Upon exiting the Convo, that sun had gone into deep hiding, and inches of white covered the ground and was still coming down heavily. For those 20 or so miles out to the 4-lane, I drove only about 15 MPH. When I did get to the 4-lane, the road had been cleared and I picked up speed - and got pulled over and ticketed.

Slow offensive start but solid overall performance. Great games for Hunter and Wilson. Loved the energy from James. Gotta follow it up with a win at NIU.

Jaylin has really turned it on the last 5 games. 17ppg and shooting 50% from 3. Up until today, had only 4 total turnovers in previous 4 games. Had 4 today and would still like to see more assists, but he’s emerging as a real building block.

I agree. We still have the firepower to shock people this year but Boals is building. A starting lineup of Jaylin, Elmore, AJ Brown, AJ Clayton and a portal big with a bench of Wiz, Miles, Rod, Izuma and another transfer is tough next year. Not to mention Sheldon.

Agree on Jaylin, Elmore, and AJB being the starters in an ideal world next season. Will be interesting to see if Rod and Miles opt to use the additional year and if the latter would still start.

Clayton only played 7 mins today. Not sure if anyone caught it, but after he clunked his first 3PA the announcer said he needs to start shooting more 2PA’s. I think until he develops his offensive game more, he’s not a shoe-in starter next season. We need a starting 4 and 5 from the portal imo.

No. No, it's not. This is not a good roster. Sorry.

BLove is correct.

Kidding ourselves if we think we are close to Kent, Akron and Toledo starting five.

With all due respect with your critiquing and analysis I doubt we can field a team next year. Wiz should work in Rohr room or be shown the door you say. Clayton, you have said is terrible. Baker equally bad. Whereas Baker didn't have a great game when things were getting tight late today, he had a good offensive rebound and a clutch basket. Russ stated Clayton is up and down; deal with it. He is NOT terrible. With your logic we could say the same of AJB, his recent games have not been stellar. As far as Wiz, I'll take 4 points and 6 boards today.

If you think Clayton is more up than down this year, then you haven’t watched enough games. Baker has scored two points in his last 120 minutes of basketball and this is with AJB missing two of those games. He has been atrocious and brought into the program to score. That one made basket by Baker you refer to was off his own miss. He doesn’t make shots…period.

Good for the Whiz and his six boards. The 7-footer also got blocked twice by the 350 pound fella who never left his feet. I can’t get excited about beating Miami at home. The RedHawks are awful. Need to back it up with a road win at NIU.

+ 1. Fiami played a good game - they never gave up - I was especially impressed by their Offensive ball movement. As noted in prior post on here they have had quite a few close losses. If you can't get excited about beating Fiami any time, any year, anywhere....

EJ taking minutes from Baker likely due to EJ performing better - Yes - and that likely a result of competition for those minutes - Yes - Outcome of that better - Yes - And more fresh legs from the bench - Yes - Great coaching decisions. And Great in game coaching when EJ makes some frosh mistakes like when he had a real bad miss on D today and Boals let him know it after he went to bench for a couple minutes. That Fiami tank also stopped DW3 a couple times today as well as scored on him, not just Wiz...

The line was Ohio -9.5 - We won by 10. Once again those Vegas dudes pretty good. And that with a game where by my watch we did not get any home court advantage from the ref crew. It was not horrible, but I think we were screwed on a lot of close calls and Fiami was not...

Watching this game on ESPN+ it looked like a real cool atmosphere and that the team responded well to that environment. Seemed to me one of the more team-oriented games we’ve played recently. Guys seemed to be looking for open teammates and there appeared to less “ballhogism.” Really impressed with EJs play and with Hunter. The latter seems to be slowly becoming more of a floor leader, as well as a reliable scorer. Wilson seems to be getting better with every game recently. He’s starting to look like the guy we saw before his injury. He is really a load under the net and elsewhere on the court. And, I may be the only one, but I still see hope for Wiznitzer. I think with an off-season in the weight room and some more “coaching up” that he may surprise us and be next year’s most improved player. Looking forward to beating NIU and then taking Akron down an notch or two. Go OHIO!

He was wearing a *UCK MIAMI shirt underneath his long-sleeve shirt. He didn't pull his long sleeve up high enough when showing me his other shirt for me to tell if * was an F or M. I told him that I appreciate the hat he wears during football games this fall while wearing my t-shirt of the same design.
