This is a man that our fan base wanted gone just six-to-eight weeks ago, so if he has this opportunity, there's no guarantee it will ever come up again in his lifetime.

And, at one point can we stop waxing poetic of how coaches sixty years ago showed loyalty? The dollars were vastly different and the pressures were as well. No message boards, no national recruiting, no non-stop sports tickers and heavy boosters. This is a vastly different world.

So instead of firing Fitzgerald, who’s making $6.5 million a year, northwestern fires 3 of his long time assistants. Let’s see how that works, but they have nowhere to go but up.

Fitzgerald getting fired is about as unlikely as Kirk Ferentz firing his son Brian.

If he had any integrity he would have resigned just like Shaw did at Stanford. He has to know that he’s not helping Northwestern football any more.

I'm guessing Tim Albin does not interview particularly well. He has lots of intangibles (incredible work ethic and apparently a very keen football mind) that make him right for us but are not obvious in an interview setting. Big question is what Frank would advise him to do.

Not to mention, OU fans were pushing to buy him out after 1 year but are asking for loyalty now.

If he goes to Tulsa I do not blame him one bit. I have ridden him as bad as others have on here and thought he was toast after the Kent game. Will admit I'm wrong, and the only thing to do that's right at this point from my end is answer the call if they need us to pony up a donation to keep him around. Not saying we all should freely, but definitely is something to monitor to see if Albin turns this into a poker game

I don't know who is "asking for loyalty" now. I just pointed out, as have a few others, that he is perceived as having that loyalty after nearly 20 years in Athens. Time will tell if that perception is correct.

I'd say 20 years is loyalty. To assume fealty is foolish. In the position I'm in, I've been here longer than anybody previous. I plan to leave the role in the next year or two, but I think that does not mark me as disloyal.

Okay, let me re-phrase: they're anticipating loyalty based on their read of Tim Albin. And maybe they're right, as you say, time will tell.

But the loyalty was a one way street, and I'm sure Tim Albin noticed that. If a payday in his home state, in a better conference comes up, I suspect that will cross his mind.

I don't think he his a free agent. He's under contract for two more years. Ohio could let him go in a month without a buyout because of one clause in the four year contract but I don't think that it goes the other way.

If Mandel is reporting it who has an actual reputation and career in the business is reporting it, and not just some random guy with a twitter account who can just write whatever he wants, you have to believe that he is somewhere on Tulsa's radar. This is the sort of job we might actually lose him to. One of the best funded G5 teams to which he has some sort of previous or regional tie. Most G5 teams can't pay him enough and most P5 teams would aim higher.

I doubt that Tim Albin has spent one minute on BA, so I doubt he's aware at all about the rude, crude nasty things said here. As a D1 coach he certainly knew after last year that he was on a hot seat. I'm sure he was aware generally that the natives were restless, but I doubt too many folks told him to his face that they wanted him gone. I doubt that the AD told him she was getting calls to axe him. There were no local media stories that I'm aware of talking about the possiblity of not renewing his contract. So, what I'm saying is that while he was certainly under a lot of pressure and anxiety about his longevity as HC prior to this season and before the winning streak started, I doubt that he felt that he was about to be tarred and feathered and run out of town on a rail, as was what figuratively happened with William Holmes McGuffey when he proposed raisng the rent on university lands to provide more income for the university, but that's a story for another day.

Official, Trent Dilfer announced as UAB's next coach.

Per the guys at Split Zone Duo, this search was an absolute mess. Bill Clark "retired" due to back issues, but he's also been looking for other jobs this cycle. The AD at UAB has been meddling in the football program, while also looking for a new job of his own. They wanted guys like Justin Fuente, Dan Mullen and Tom Herman, but nobody was willing to commit to working with the AD. Trent Dilfer is a reach. But hey, they got a nice new stadium!

Per Sports Illustrated, it looks like two MAC coaches are the finalists for the UC Bearcat job.

Not so fast!

UC has hired Scott Satterfield from their rival Louisville. Satterfield and Louisville's relationship has been soured since Satterfield openly wanted to leave for the South Carolina opening before they hired Shane Beamer. It's been extremely tenuous ever since, but Satterfield kept winning just enough not to get fired.

They Bearcats and Cards play each other in the Fenway Bowl.

Totally normal sport.

Boy, oh Boy . . . I have inlaws in Louisville, and they are big U of L fans, as well as alumni. I don't think that they are gone react kindly to this move.

I was under the impression that Louisville was looking to fire Satterdield this year but he didn’t lose enough games to justify it? Speculation i saw online is that while Louisville was going to publicly commit to him, they weren’t going to extend his contract (had 2 more seasons on it). So, by walking, he resets his contract.

Not sure how excited I’d be about this if i were a Cincinnati fan, honestly

Well, let me check with them and see what they say, but I suspect even if they wanted him gone, they didn't want him gone to Cinci.

Louisville fans and staff are happy about this. They wanted him gone and now don't have to pay a buyout. Cincinnati fans are probably more excited than they would have been if they hired Kent State's Sean Lewis.

OK, I just got this text from one of the in-laws in Louisville: "My personal reaction is more power to him and them. Louisville needs a coaching change and now they will get it, for better or for worse." I'd interpret this as kind of a lukewarm endorsement of the move.

Tulsa has hired Ohio State offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson.

Those who thought Albin might be gone can breathe a sigh of relief.
