Florida overwhelms Ohio 82-48

Bobcats shoot just 22.2% in 1st half

TAMPA, Fla. – Florida’s combination of size and athleticism overwhelmed Ohio as the Gators ran away with an 82-48 victory Wednesday night at Amalie Arena.

The Bobcats trailed 42-18 at the break after shooting just 22.2% in the first half.

Dwight Wilson had more than half of his team’s points in the first half with 10 and finished with 13 points. Freshman AJ Brown continued to produce after an injury kept him out the lineup earlier this season, finishing with a team-leading 14 points. Jaylin Brown scored nine points.

Florida (7-4) rolled throughout the game, shooting 51.9% on the night. Kowacie Reeves led the Gators with 20 points, while Kyle Lofton had 15 points.

With Wilson scoring eight points in the first 10 minutes, Ohio (5-5) hung around for a while, trailing just 16-10, but the Bobcats went scoreless for over seven and a half minutes while Florida went on a 17-0 run to go up 33-10. Wilson finally hit two free throws 3:10 left in the half.

The Gators gradually added to their lead in the second half, with the advantage maxing out at 80-40 with a few minutes to go.

Ohio starters Miles Brown, DeVon Baker and AJ Clayton combined for three points on 1-for-17 shooting.

Alex Fudge had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Gators, while Trey Bonham also reached double figures with 12 points.

The Bobcats return home to face another Florida team when they take on Stetson at 2 p.m. Saturday on ESPN3.
