Metheny leads Falcons past Bobcats

Bowling Green finishes strong in close game

BOWLING GREEN – Kaden Metheny scored 25 points and Bowling Green finished strong to take an 88-79 victory against Ohio on Saturday evening at The Convo.

The Bobcats held a four-point lead with six minutes to go, but the Falcons followed with an 11-0 run, and Ohio got no closer than five after that.

AJ Brown and Dwight Wilson had 17 points each, with Wilson also pulling down 17 rebounds. DeVon Baker reached double figures with 10 points.

Bowling Green shot 60% in the first half to build a 44-40 lead. The Falcons (8-7, 2-0 MAC) then went up 56-43 with a big start to the second half before the Bobcats (8-7, 0-2 MAC) turned things around, tying the game at 59 on a pair of Elmore James free throws. Later, a Brown 3-pointer gave them a 67-63 lead, and they also led by four after two Wilson free throws with six minutes to play.

"Give them a lot of credit," Ohio coach Jeff Boals said. "Eighty-eight points obviously that's way too many give up on the road to win. But, you know, first half we had too many turnovers, which led to some easy points, but we were 44-40, The start of the second half wasn't ideal, you know, you got to get that momentum going. We battled back like we've been doing and tied up last war, but we couldn't close it out."

After a career-high 24 points, Miles Brown attempted just three shots and scored nine points. Ben Roderick had eight points for Ohio, which committed 14 turnovers while forcing only five.

Rashaun Agee backed Metheny with 16 points, Leon Ayers III had 13 points, and Sam Towns had a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds for Bowling Green.

Ohio has its first MAC home game when it hosts Ball State at 7 p.m. Tuesday at The Convo.
