Bobcats blow out Falcons to wrap up regular season

Ohio goes on 21-0 run late in 1st half to run away

ATHENS – Ohio closed out the regular season and ended Bowling Green’s in resounding fashion with a 92-58 blowout victory Friday night at The Convo.

Dwight Wilson had 20 points in just 23 minutes, finishing his night early with the Bobcats running away. Ohio clinched the No. 5 seed in the Mid-American Conference tournament, while the Falcons missed a postseason spot, finishing one game behind eighth-place Miami.

The Bobcats (18-13, 10-8 MAC) exploded for 54 points in the first half and led by 28 at that point, more than doubling up the Falcons, 54-26, using a 21-0 run from over about a four-minute period to take turn a 10-point lead into a 31-point advantage.

Even with the bench getting substantial playing time, Ohio added to its lead in the second half, maxing out its advantage at 90-51 on two Olumide Adelodun free throws with 3:51 remaining.

Elmore James scored 17 points in just 19 minutes for the Bobcats, while AJ Brown had 14 points in 16 minutes off the bench. AJ Clayton scored 12 points.

Ohio shot 62.9% in the first half and went 14 of 15 at the foul line for the game.

Jaylin Hunter and Miles Brown each had five assists. Wilson had a team-leading six rebounds.

Samari Curtis and Leon Ayers III had 11 points each to lead Bowling Green (11-20, 5-13 MAC). Curtis’ points came on a 3-of-15 shooting performance. He added seven rebounds. The Falcons shot 34.4% on the night.

The Bobcats take on No. 4 seed Ball State in the quarterfinals of the MAC Tournament at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.
