I don't really care. However, it seems like the Cats are better than numerous teams in that tournament.

It is likely we turned it down. Boals said the season was over after the Toledo loss and, yes, we have a much, much better resume than some of those teams.

Even if we got an invite this year or in future years, I don't see Boals accepting it. I think he learned his lesson last year that's it's not worth it to spend your money to play in a post-season tournament where 22 people show up. That money can be allocated in more important ways with the program.

And wouldn't Akron have received an invite before us anyway?

IMO the biggest benefit of this tournament or the CIT in years past is that we could further develop young players. Now that those same players are more likely to transfer than before that benefit is not worth as much.

I've seen crazier things happen.

Game experience matters. You can't get game experience year round

I guess you should get that consultant business up and running, because more and more schools ain't seeing that value that you do. And, you never know, that decision very well could have come from above the coaches pay grade.

You are lacking in reading comprehension... As I said above, the value that once existed is gone... Development is now a liability not an asset

You are always going to develop your players, otherwise they will move on because you are not doing enough for them.

I'm not as down on the CBI or NIT as many on here.

And I do see it as another chance to grow and develop your players, as well as your coaches.

I always look at Loyola when this argument comes up...

- 2015: Porter Moser is in his 4th year as coach of a 19 win team that won 15 the previous year.

CBI comes calling... they win 5 in a row... CHAMPS.

- 2018: One of the craziest Final Four runs ever... led by two freshman who were on that CBI team.

Their only post-season tournament experience up until that point... the CBI.

You are correct. On a number (in fact most all) fronts there is no value in the CBI -- a few extra weeks / games for player development (at the cost involved) is one of those fronts.

I actually enjoyed the CBI/CIT games when we got to host some games. It's understandable they went to a neutral site deal with Covid, but at this point, I'd think they are losing more money by having no ticket sales at a random neutral site for the 3rd tier basketball tournament. I have some positive memories of those tourney games, like being there in the Convo for Nick Kellogg and Mo N'Dour's final game as Bobcats vs VMI.

What I take from that is mid major with young adults playing. Age brings about the Cinderella in the 1 and done era.

And the risk of injury to play in a glorified scrimmage.

The NIT is a legit tournament. That is the one worth playing in.

Simplest answer is we had guys tired/injured/limited and playing a couple extra games wasn't worth more than the wear and tear.

The bigger issue IMO was budgetary. We already spent $$$ on pre-season Spain trip which Boals surely preferred as it gave some extra practice and bonding time for a young team with lots of new parts. The choice was probably preseason trip or post season tourney but not both. Boals made the right decision.

Also agree with this. I believe it has also done very well for the young guys to get to know each other / trust each other more - based on seeing them around campus they are always hanging with each other.

This thread should die. We preemptively decided we weren't going to accept any invitations to a post-season tournament. Coach Boals said this in his post-game interview after we were bounced from the MAC tournament. So, what is there to discuss? I would have liked it if we had, but we didn't. I can live with the decision, at whatever level it was made.

I'm going with we were scared of Alex Fudge.

I think it was because Boals needed more time to tweet. [Thanks BTC for your sharp editor’s eye.]

I know, I'm extending this thread which I wanted to die. Sorry, I just could not resist.
