On the women’s side, Yaya Felder is second-team and Jaya McClure is all-freshman

Pretty spot-on. Could have made the case for Dwight to be first team; but it’s hard to argue against any of the five chosen. AJB probably would have been FOY had it not been for injuries. A little surprised Jaylin didn’t land in third team.

Agree...when you can only pick five...I have no problem with DW3 on the second team. However, Hunter not making 3rd team is criminal. The numbers over the last 15 games have been eye-popping. I hope he uses this as extra motivation for next season. Really looking forward to having him run the show again next year.

I thought Felder would have made first team. I guess I look at it as the value she supplied to the team, which was extremely high. I suspect that if OHIO had had a much better record, and Yaya had had the exact same numbers, she would have been first team. That's the way these things always work, but I don't think it's an accurate measure of a player's value.

Leading the nation, BY FAR, in turnovers (while averaging far less assists)...may have had something to do with it.

But, if OHIO was a top four MAC team, instead of in the basement, you don't think she'd be first team with those same numbers?

Here's the rest of the list:

https://getsomemaction.com/news/2023/3/6/mens-basketball-...

Dennis getting unanimous POTY - when's the last time we had that in the MAC?

Bass FOTY

Jalen Sullinger wins 6th Man of the Year then isn't included on any of the actual teams? Huh?

I guess we should be quaking in our Nikes because Ballz has three guys between 2nd and 3rd team and we have just one. Totally good with all the First Teamers. This year's crop of players was outstanding. Heck, Emoni Bates on Third Team? Lairy from Miami? Some great players. Bass deserves FOY and Tod K did a great job this year as well. Sullinger as 6th man is fine too. Overall not bad. Just think the three Ballz is interesting. Hoping we can overcome The Trio tomorrow.

How about a switching places for teammates? Setrick Millner with JT Shumate?

Or could you say that if not for injuries to AJB that Elmore James wouldn't be on the all-frosh team?

AJB may in the end be better than Reggie Bass but, please, this year injury or not, James wasn't going to put up 40 or average 25 a game the last 5 of the season. Nor did AJB beat UofM on a last second bomb--the things legends are made of!

You got that right. Not being 1st team is an embarrassment and joke on the conference brass.

Yaya played over 32 min.per game, often double-teamed, and had the ball in her hands much of the time because she essentially was our offense this season. Her high number of TO that someone mentioned would be expected in this context.

She led the MAC in scoring with 22 pts. per game, averaging 4 more points per game than the POY!
She played 20 games scoring 20 points or more.
She was 8th in FG%.
She was 3rd in the conference in assists.
She was 3rd in the MAC in steals.
She averaged over 5 boards per game.

Would love to see someone run around the floor at halftime of the MAC Women's final with a sign reading:

Yaya is 1st team MAC (or something more clever than that)

I maintain she is right where she should be on the 2nd team. Your arguments for how bad her team was creating some negative aspects can also be used for why she scored so much. 9th in FG% but only among qualifiers of which there aren't many. She was a ho hum 34.9% from 3. And yes you're right that her team created turnovers for her. But there are turnovers, and then there are historically insanely high turnovers. I haven't tried to look to see if some NCAA records were set, one because I am not sure I could find and two, I am afraid of what I would find.
