According to ESPN Ohio schedule, game has been changed from Sat Jan 30 200 pm to Fri Jan 29 900 pm.

I don't know if this has been corroborated by any other sources.

This isn't definite, because the only source is an ESPN schedule.

Ohio website still shows Sat game.

I would assume this means the game is on the U. UIC-Detroit was on at 9:00 last night.

Nice to get some TV eyeballs if this is the case, but it totally disrupts an epic day for me. Plan was to pre-game w/ one of my best Bobcat buddies and his high school friends whose daughter is a student, attend the game and then head to Columbus for a Todd Rundgren show at the Southern Theater. I'll still make a Friday game, but everybody else is out.

Not a fan. Kind of knocks my school age grand kids out for what is usually an exciting game. Also it goes up against high school basketball which is a pretty big deal around here. Have fun getting back to Columbus at 1:00 in the morning. I did the reverse trip after a Catie Curtis concert and that last half hour is brutal that time of night.

National TV game. Hope the Bobcats get a big crowd on national TV for this one and show people we are on are way back to where we usually are in the MAC East race.

that is the second time you have alluded to "usually" as if we were a long established leader. Maybe you were asleep when everyone was complaining about JGs lackluster conference records and TOS "life on the road" conversations. Maybe I am misinterpreting what it means to be a league leader. Christian was successful with JG's roster but it is not like we are perpetually like Gonazaga, Wichita State, Butler in the Horizon or even like Kent or Akron in the east. Help me out and show me how we have been the league leader this program should be.

we won the regular season title in 1994 and then again 2013, I think he meant we usually win the East about once every 20yrs or so.

And won the MAC Tourney in 2005, 2010, 2012. 1/3 of the Championships in the last 10 years.

It's on the U: http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/schedule/_/dat...

Unfortunately, it's right after Iona-Manhattan, so if that game goes long, the start might only be on the ESPN app unless they decide to start it on ESPNews.

just looking at the overview of the MAC I see more Kent/Kron/Balls once you get past the 60s and early 70s. http://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/conferences/mac /

I truly think we have the school, campus, fanbase, home court and athletic department to be a year in and year out force if we build on what the last decade has produced as a program. What we really have is ...a good foundation...that is not a dominant or really...a relevant tradition and history. If this looked more like the MAC from 52' to 74' I would think Ohio and Miami were the gonzaga and st mary's of the MAC. 1/3 of the championships....maybe....but I thought the original post alluded to what we are used to as if regualr season excellence has been the norm. Since Snyder left, the regualr season has had us 3rd 4th and 5th or lower most of the time in the MAc East with an occasional 2nd and the rare regular season winner. The earlier comment was a few weeks ago...but I am going to walk it back and say I was thinking he was saying we should be returning to excellence... now since I reread today's comment and realize he may be right ...

.....we are, in actuality, right where we usually are.... Apologies.

Akron 2-0 13-2 W10
Bowling Green 1-1 10-5 L1
Buffalo 1-1 8-7 W1
Ohio 1-1 10-4 W1
Kent State 1-1 10-5 L1
Miami 0-2 6-9 L5

On a personal level, if true, ensures a great weekend for me in that I had just secured Cavs vs. Spurs tickets for Saturday night and had all but given up on trying to pull off a OHIO & Cavs double header on that Saturday. Now a Friday & Saturday night double header of two great games is all coming together nicely. Consider the date change a gift.

Should make a push to get a big student crowd at the Convo. This is a big game against a quality conference opponent.

What a day at the Convo.....Wow!

I guess if you define the word fan as only those who live in the Athens area that are willing and able to go to the game.

If you change the word only to majority and throw in those who regularly drive to the game, I agree 100% with 69's post.

It's a Friday night game and most people don't work on Saturday so I don't see what the big deal is. Also the kids don't have school the next day so let your hair down and keep them up past their bedtime. They will love you for it. 😊

I think you will see a solid student turnout that night. In fact I think it will be better than 2:00 tip. I for one am really excited about getting to town early, taking my daughter to dinner and then taking in the game. Should be a solid atmosphere which will look great for both Ohio and the MAC.

Unlike Gallia's opinion above I agree. Being from Indiana we grow up knowing HS basketball is KING here.....very few Indiana colleges will play on a Friday night as they know they have a hard time. Many also try to schedule Saturday games at 1 or 2 knowing Sat night is another hometown hoops night. It is not that way amongst the majority of OHIO fans but it is a concern here. Was going to make the Saturday game ...wife requested time off that Sat a while back so that is a problem for folks who are making the trek. Just glad we had not already made hotel reservations. Friday game is tough to get the kid after school and make the trek by gametime. Good post 69

I hate that it throws a wrench in your plans. No matter what the schedule and the changes some will be happy and others will be upset. I just thought a Friday night game could lead to an energized (after some beverages) student section.

I posted this at least three or four times a while back but many if not most people are creatures of habit (you'd think they had assigned seating in church). When games jump all over the calendar, some fans get lost in the shuffle. The 30 or 40 posters on this board are far from the norm or average. I'll be at the game Friday night but my guess is that the people who sit in my other three won't be there. That's too bad because Kent at 2:00 on a Saturday afternoon even without the alcohol is generally electric.

I hope you are right. Unfortunately, after years in Athens (got to be a correlation with the recent drop in party school demise and our departure) I am not sure basketball on a Friday night competes with COurt Street....assuming you are talking about going after the under 21 crowd (wink wink)to be the ones who will show up. I was more likely to study early and hit McCabes or the Red Lion(to see REO/Cheap Trick/Head East/Fogleberg https://www.highbeam.com/doc/1P2-11696903.html ) in Dekalb rather than head over to Chick Evans given the choice. I suspect Saul has not got the students in Athens to greatly change from what I have seen in the last decade.

Historically Ohio ranks near the top of MAC in wins, winning %, regular season titles, tournament titles, NCAA tournament wins. We usually like are chances come March on a neutral court. Most teams don't out recruit Ohio. We have had several MAC player of the year winners, NBA picks, MAC tournament MVP's. Most would agree even in the last 15 years we would rank top three of the MAC. How many NCAA tournament wins does Akron have over us in last 15 years? How many NCAA tournament wins does Kent State have in last ten years. How NCAA trips for Miami, Ball State, EMU in last 15 years. Ohio takes a back seat to nobody in basketball in the MAC. At worst we are the third top program in the history of the MAC.

I am a big fan of accuracy and a big critic of fanbases that don't know their history ....Just because you put it on the internet does not make it true. Illinois, Butler, St Johns, Temple and many more overstate their relevance. Have sat with many guys Charlie Coles, Jerry Fisher, Jerry Peirson, Ray McCallum to name a few talking about the MAC and the history to appreciate it from the perspective of opponents and lagends. Quite a privilege to hear those old stories and get a feel for things. I do believe we have the edge in many ways in recruiting. I agree we have done more in the tourney than anyone in the last decade courtesy of JG....but also see the Kent side of the argument with tourney success....I see how you cut it off at 10 with the tourney and extended the trips to 15. I don't see how you go back in the last 15 years and put us as 3rd best... Balls was relevant for awhile under Majerus and Hunsaker, Miami was tough along with OHIO when I was a kid tagging along to Oxford when Millet was newly opened. Watching Miami, Dayton, cincy and X ( I was too late for A&M and their reign with Hondo and the undefeated season) I did not give much thought to Ohio. I would like to think OHIO and the legacy here is to establish a program that is enduring and at the top of the MAC but I do not think as a fanbase we can deceive ourselves and others a la the fans of schools who think they are actually more relevant than they really are in the hoops world. Looking at the names on the list I do not see OHIO dominating over all over the history book
