There's an article in today's (1/17/16) The Record about Rutgers' Academic Center.

According to the article, RU spends about 2 million a year to provide academic services for their 600 D1 athletes.
The article says that this is double the amount they spend per student for non athletes

The article also said that the per athlete cost is in line with other D1 schools.

Just wonder if anyone knows:

1.How much does O.U. spend for their Academic Center and what does that come out to per athlete ?

2.Do the Academic Center costs come out of the Athletic or General budget ?

3.The article quotes an O.U. professor,(B.David Ridpath).
They refer to him as a former coach and professor.
Anyone know anything about him ?

Not sure about "Coach", but hes one of the most well respected minds in college athletics today.

He had some interesting comments in the article (sorry I can't get it to link) about bonuses for coaches for academic performance and how coaches push athletes into easy majors so they can be kept eligible.

The article on;y quoted him a couple of times,but what he said sounded pretty objective.

The article also talks about what they call "special admits",that is,students who do not meet a school's academic requirements and how many of these are athletes.

Not sure about "Coach", but hes one of the most well respected minds in college athletics today.


Ridpath is a great asset to this university and a sports ad prof.

I asked this a month or so ago and no one answered, anyone know why we've quit putting academic majors in the program?

Not every sport, which is exactly why I asked. We have comments on the profiles of Jr/Sr's like "Expects to". Interesting wording.
