Stopped there last evening and had a wonderful time. 20+ wines by the glass with a choice of 6 flights, small bites, comfortable seating and a gracious brother and sister team working very hard to provide a new and unique experience in Athens. Bottles also available for carryout or bagging to go if you only want to enjoy a glass or two while there. It's fantastic and fills a niche in Athens. In addition to serving pretty sophisticated local ciders, it's kind of a grown-up's cocktail bar with excellent local snacks. The proverbial "clean, well-lighted place" that Ernest Hemingway once described. Only caveat: It's expensive for Athens. I love Jackie O's, Tony's and many other uptown stalwarts, but I find myself at the Cider House quite a few weekends that I make it down. Indeed, when writing my first book, I pondered what choice of spelling to employ when referring to both the region and its wines. I can attest that West End Cider House is outstanding. Yes, it's a bit expensive compared to some other A-town bars, but it's also cleaner, quieter, and a place that real conversation can be had at a late hour. Besides cider, they make some killer cocktails, even though I'm not a cocktail person.
