Saw this press release today. No heavy analysis from me, looks like all the outlets and such you'd expect from football season.

It appears we're fairly well represented on TWCS and ASN. Whether that's a good thing to you or not is up for debate.

Not a fan of potentially moving a Saturday home game to Friday in order to accommodate TV.

Also, be warned that if you are not a TWC subscriber, those TWC games are probably going to be blacked out for you on WatchESPN/ESPN3. Learned that the hard way during the Miami football game.

The ASN games aren't shown locally in Athens

Hadn't caught onto that about the Fridays. Even worse to do that for CBSSN. Ick.

I also didn't realize ASN games weren't making it to Athens -- I see WWHO has been replaced by a WV version of the CW. That's a real drag.

With ESPN3 well outside of Ohio, I'm spoiled with all the ASN and TWCS stuff, but I can see this being extremely frustrating.

For what it's worth, I've been impressed with the production value of ASN games for MAC football. That's unfortunate that it isn't shown in Athens (but wouldn't that be a mandatory for signing with ASN -- availability in MAC cities?)

Geez, as someone who is trying to plan a trip from out of town to attend a home game during conference play, having basically every single Saturday game subject to being moved to Friday isn't ideal. I wonder how far in advance they will declare which games get moved.

I find the blackout of anything to be extremely frustrating. I wonder what your thoughts are on that given the industry you work in? I wish WatchESPN and other comparable services would just be available on a stand alone pay basis.

I think that if one could get ESPN as a stand alone that a whole lot of cable and satellite subscriptions would be dropped...would really hurt the cable and satellite service providers.

Closest thing is Sling TV. $20/month for online TV: 23 channels, including ESPN and ESPN2. For $5 more, you can get ESPNU, ESPN News and SEC Network, along with a few others.

What about CBSSN and NBC Sports?

Excellent point. I just get tired of the annual song and dance with Slime Warner when the jack up the rate. While I know other cable co's do it too, it's just dreadful customer service.

This Friday night idea is horrible. Here in SE Ohio, Friday night is high school basketball night. Why go against that.

As I look through this, does anyone have a clue what channel the BCSN is in Columbus or Athens? Is this STO or something?

Just purchased 4 season tickets for basketball primarily because of the 7 Saturday games. The day after I buy them I read here that some of them may be subject to a " wildcard Friday"?
I called the athletic office the next day and no one seemed to know what I was talking about. Live in Pittsburgh and have to make hotel/motel reservations for the Saturday games. If anyone has any information I would appreciate it.
New to the Board....dad of a student....love Athens and support the teams.

I can only tell you what I know from past experience. Any game that is a "Wildcard Selection" is usually decided upon by the TV Network around 20 days in advance. The networks obviously pick the game they assume will be the most compelling for their audience. Usually that means teams that are winning, which is why we didn't see much of the Bobcats last year. It's a pain for planning, that's for sure, but it's obviously the price of being televised.

The good thing is, you can probably change/cancel the reservations with that kind of notice, but it's still a pain in the rear. In fairness to the people in the ticket office, they don't get this stuff shared with them in advance, and they have zero control over the situations. Unless I'm mistaken, it's all conference negotiated TV deals controlling it.

To me, it is a questionable decision to jeopardize our basketball program's premier live platform, Saturday home games, to get us on TV on a Friday night with these lower tier networks that won't get us very many viewers anyway.

Normally, I understand accommodating TV, but there has to be boundaries to this at some point. Somewhere there are diminishing returns to changing game days/times for a limited TV audience. I hope the decision makers are including this in the equation.

Definitely not in favor of moving Saturday hoops to Fridays.

I don't think the (potential) gain that the FB programs receive for November weeknight games is there for hoops. Not to mention it'll hurt the out of towners when you're chosen for a 6:30 Friday or a 9pm game. Or at least it would for me.

I hope they don't pick us. Then I wouldn't be upset to watch other MAC hoops on Friday nights before our Saturday games :)

Thanks for the information. A 20 day notice is definitely better/more convenient than the 1 week I feared it might be. That being said there is just something about a Saturday afternoon bball game on campus.
Last year we tried to hit Saturday afternoon games then OU hockey games in the evening.

YES - My son and I have done that for years! We travel from Columbus.

I don't like this Friday night stuff AT ALL! OHIO/Athens probably has more to lose from this than any other MAC school due to number of long distance travelers to games, to Athens for games.

We are in the post-TV era with everything a digital broadcast. There are some schools in the MAC that can't get a decent basketball recruit or a fan through the doors. Let them move their games to Friday night for publicity.

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Miami @ Peden front of 25,086

Probably not as many as you think. If sports are the reason you are keeping cable, odds are you have local teams you follow. The majority of those teams' games are on regional sports networks. (Indians on STO, Reds on FS Ohio, etc.) Cut the cord and you lose access to those games.

I keep cable for golf, the big events like March Madness, the Derby, etc.

But isn't the only access for OHIO sports for those of us living outside of OHIO pretty much only thru the satellite or cable providers?

Roku and such can't throw what we can't input to them, right ?? (Is that the proper question to ask?)
