There's an article about the riots in Lexington Kentucky following last night's loss.

According to the article, the police used street sweepers to break up the crowd.

For those of us of a certain age, this reminded me of the "scoops" they used for crowd control in Soylent Green.

Always amazing to see the things kids do from Penn State to Columbus to Lexington when they win/lose or whatever. Setting couches on fire on Mill Street or in Columbus is insane behaviour no matter where it happens.

I do not remember when all this came to be. Maybe it was just quiet from the time of the French Revolution till sport became mainstream LOL. Dunno.

I do remember my buddy rides mounted horse patrol in Chicago related that right after Bartman caught the ball at the Cubs game and he was really upset by how hostile the crowds were on Division Street.

Not sure looking at the Europeans and how they act surrounding futbol that our future sees any relief in how we react to sporting events.

borna, at least in this country I've never heard of a ref buying tank to park along the side lines so that he could jump in it to protect himself in case he made a call that the fans didn't like. This happened several decades ago in Brazil.

I saw the fan that shot the flare into the goalie's back this year.

It is a bit over the top. Fans are a bit crazy. One more reason to keep coming to the Convo. Less loonies.

When the legal drinking age was raised to 21. Less in bars - more at street parties......

And don't those couch fires in the background look good to all your buddies back home when you post your selfie, too?

I really don't see this as a recent phenomenon, only the immediacy of the coverage is new.

It happened with my classmates and me in 1974 at the "annual" uptown riot. It's all about being seen and playing a role, whatever that is.

I've always gotten a chuckle out of WVU's message board being named after their couch burning tradition.
Those WVU students sure do love trampling lawns.

I've seen crazier things happen.
