Who wants the worst job in the country?

Hurley already mentioned on ESPN. They pay a lot. Could happen.

He could use some of his old Duke gear at DePaul.

Seriously, I think Hurley would have to think long and hard about taking this job if offered. My gut says he could find other, better opportunities elsewhere.

Let's see:
In the big East-check
In basketball rich Chicago-check
Salary of $1.8 million-check
New 10,000 seat facility in 2016-check
Fairly high rates academic institution @121-check
Not bad basketball history-check

They will get a pretty good coach.

For upwards of $2 million a year, I think some poor soul will suffer for it.

You really have to drop a fur piece from Depaul to find the worst job in the country. There are 351 D1 schools. Depaul is not out of the top 125. It has good history, a great location and a good conference. All said, a good coach will recruit to Chicago, take advantage of a new arena and a good school. The money will be good. I think it is a pretty plum job that is no worse than Marquette, St Johns, Alabama or a number of other Power Conference schools off the top of my head

Depaul should hire Ty Corbin. Played there, NBA coaching experience, invested in what they are trying to do as he has a connection to the university.

All of that should be true, so what's been holding them back recently? Will the new arena be that much of a difference maker?

lack of vision, Ray Meyer's ghost... a lot of stuff....like who would ever have thougth Purnell wasa good choice in the frist place?

The arena IMHO is not going to be a major shot in the arm. It will be miles from campus (not as far as Rosemont) and is hard to get to from Depaul. They started talks ofa new conference in 1978 to form a new conference. That became the MCC and later the Horizon but they were never a member while Butler and X were along with Marquette. They initially went with son Joey Meyer and then another long time asst Molinari. They could have followed a model like Butler, Xavier or like peers Dayton and Marquette but they never have.

I think there is talent, a decent undergrad program and a good schedule in a major conference if they hire and support. Playing in the new stadium is a stretch but when they were playing Notre Dame, Dayton, UCLA and such when I was living in the City or staying with my bro in law in Rosemont the place was packerd every game. Having local heroes like Terry Cummings, Mark AgGuire, Corzine and fan faves TYRONE corbin and rod Stricklnd helped them become Chicago's team even displacing the Illini for awhile.

It is all there for the right personality. In a much better neighborhood than Xavier, St Johns, Boston College or any of the city schools it should be able to recruit easily and draw lots of local talent that wants to stay home. It is all about finding the fit.

I just looked up the arena, and it is quite a ways from campus. I guess in Chicago the train would make it easier to get to than I envision. Looks like a nice arena based on renderings!

I honestly don't know why some AD's get paid. At DePaul, you have one job to do.
