Just saw Morehead State take out Louisville, was a great final play too with a Morehead State playing blocking a Louisville 3pt attempt with under a second left.

Last year #13 Murray State beat #4 Vanderbilt. It must be an Ohio Valley Conference thing.

Either way, Kenneth Faried is a monster. 21st Century Dennis Rodman.

13 is the new 12?

Faried is awesome.  He's gonna be a good NBA player.  Would LOVE to see him in Spurs silver and black.

It's also becoming a Big East thing.  Last year, it was #3 Georgetown.

I got to see Morehead agaisnt BSU this yeat in an odd mid conference season matchup. I was impresssed by the man with the flying dreads in the middle. Active , lots of bounce, great hands and head always up with a lots of smiles.

Took time to catch upwith Asst Coach Joe Price afterward. Marion  In Alum has been around for a few years at a varietyof schools most recently fired (scapegoated )  by BSU . Heckofa tenacious coaching staff and a great groupof kids. Feel good for them as all of those other pretty deent schoolsin KY are overshadowed by the UL UK intra state war.

I t5hink Kenthas been scheduling Morehead as of late.. Not a bad pickup but this kid is going to be a lottery pick and will have a nice Brian Grant type career. High Energy finisher.

Not a bad player, Faried, but also a good human interest story as well. Grew up in the projects of Newark, NJ, with a mom stricken with Lupus, a terrible disease that weakens a person's immune system. Didn't get much interest out of h.s. but looks to be in line for a nice NBA career.

I get a couple of WV channels living here in Athens and they've been covering Morehead hoops a good bit this year. Have seen a lot of highlights and a couple of interviews with Fareid. He's been a good citizen during his time at MSU and sounds humble, like he's got a good head on his shoulders.

I saw a great profile of him a while back that focused on how much he appreciates being at Morehead.

BTW -- I was only 12-4 in my bracket yesterday, but I had the Golden Eagles beating Louisville.

I never knew they were that close to us. I'm surprised we don't play them more often.

Fantastic start for Morehead.....even though they screwed up my bracket I was still rootin for them.....had a close friend who had relatives close by in Olive Hill and I visited him a few times while  he was at  Morehead.....when he ran into academic problems at OSU he transferred to Morehead....he's now a 6 figure banker in Florida.

Best win ever for the history of their athletic program.

What's funny is that about 8:30 am at a pub for breakfast (Guinness and eggs) a guy begged me to put Morehead over Louisville...he was drinkin Irish car bombs since 8 am but he swore it was a lock.....must have been a psychic drunk.

The Morehead/UK dynamic is pretty similar to Ohio/osu.  Morehead is overshadowed by the Big Blue Empire, but their fans are super proud.

A 2 for 2 series would be fun. Athens to Morehead is only about 3 hours.

I've only been going to games regularly since the Trent years, but I can't remember us ever playing Morehead. I agree it would be a good game to schedule.

I graduated from Portsmouth Clay (like Doc up there ) and 3 friends from my graduating class went to MSU so I visited there several times when we were all in college. The campus is pretty, but seemed a little odd to me because the buildings are a sort of mish-mash of all different architectural styles... coming from from OU, it just looked sort of strange. And at that time, the township the college is located in was dry... but the next township over wasn't. So you had to get in the car and drive a few blocks to buy beer.

To kinda hijack this thread about other teams...Someone posted on here a week or two ago that Jimmer plays no defense.  I saw their game yesterday and that 'no defense' may be an understatement.  He was happy to kinda stand around a small area in their zone making no particular effot.

He's awfully quick in getting in the air and shooting but doesn't strike me as having standout NBA skills.  I think the guys in the NBA are too talented athletically such that Jimmer won't be able to score there.  He'll play a few years as a lower caliber or back-up point guard is my impression.  I've only seen the one game but his skills don't seem to be the type that work in NBA.

My emph in watching the past few days was on what teams play great defense in the foul lane rectangle.  Didn't actually see too much of that in the mishmash of games I watched.  Any team that brings the big key defense can go far in the NCAA's is my opinion.

Yep, looks like it's down to the 1 and 2 seeds being safe (for the most part with the 2's). Even when Northeastern lost to ND it was a game.

That's the scary thing for the big majors. It's not just the occassional upset, it's that almost every game is a battle from 14 down.

I was looking for a thread rusurrection gif but remwebered we lost the ability to post pics here.

It is true that this year there are more higher seeds getting beat. Tommy and I talked about this season the brackets should go chalk this past week. That did not happen Two kids playing for their dads that are Indiana kids at UCLA ad Ga State blew up brackets, Iowa State that never adjusted and recovered from early jr high style officiating, then Purdue playing like.....well Pordue does since Gene Keady took the program over winning BIg Titles and sucking in the tourney. It is def not going chalk even though on paper it looked like a bland tourney. Maybe some would give credence to some more mids making it with P5 schools getting beat. Only problem then is those who use the UCLA win to justify why they deserved to be in after being so dreadful most of the year.

Iy is an interesting tourney this far with only 200 of more than 11 million brackets in one pool left standing.

Makes you wonder that since they do such a lousy job of being able to seed and figure which team is really better, that they expand to 128 and make more sure that they are picking the right teams for the tournament in the first place.

I think it shows deeper depth in the "mid"-majors. From '05 through '13 at least one 13 beat a 4 in every year except '07. And since Ohio beat G-town in '10, five 14s have beaten a 3. There's an argument to be made that the higher seeds take the lower seeds for granted; word was that no one from G-town bothered to show up at our practice to scout us -- they scouted their potential second-round opponent (Tenn) instead. But it's also that the lower seeds have a fair amount of talent, good coaches and come in on a winning streak (nearly all are conference champs).

that's true. I was in the arena concourse while the G TOWN staff was standing outside our session dividing the staff duties up as to who was going to stay and watch TN. Never gave it much thought till I saw it reported as I figured there was surely somone in wAtching us.

I would love to get my hands on a copy of the Gtown telecast with JT2's radio broadcast overdubbed. To his credit he did his best to remain impartial throughout, but when the full weight of what is happening hits him its an amazing thing to hear.

JT2 pronounces "guarded" like "gawded" and I still love to quote him from near the end of the game when Bassett hits his millionth 3 pointer JT2 exclaims in disbelief "He was gawded?! He was gawded?!" lmao. One Shining Moment.

13 IS the old 12.

The expansion to 68 added at large teams that will more than likely see a 10 or 11 seed, moving teams that used to be 12s to 13s.
