The only difference is he should be able to recruit better athletes to do it here. Besides we hung with the top teams in the MAC this year and we are much, much worse than NDSU. Also, the ball moved around A LOT in the second half for NDSU. I wasn't watching closely to how well they defended guard penetration, Ohio's achilles heal on defense this year. Not sure that translates into the Summit being any worse than the MAC, but who knows? Often, the ball is switched by pass-pass-pass with the ball never being dribbled. Also, a lot of dribble-dribble-pass. This is one thing I will never understand about this year. It just seemed to me SP never got the team/players disciplined enough to pass the ball around. You can blame that on the players too but the fact that the head Coach let it go on and on and on just baffled me. At one point in the season didn't someone even say require 6 passes each and every possession? At least you slow the game down and don't get blown out most nights if you do that. It gets back to I just hope to see us run some kind of offense and play better defense....duh? Brilliant observations, eh?!? A cousin and I were very close growing up and I observed him struggle with connecting with this step dad for a long time in this same way. He had trust issues and it seemed like the harder his step dad tried to build into him, the more he would push away. Some of our players were on their third coach since coming to Ohio. They were probably already jaded/disenfranchised and there was nothing the coach could do to get through to them. Throw in the fact that SP was shorthanded and you get what we watched unfold over the season. Our program has too strong of a pedigree to be down long. We are usually good to great, with a bad season every now and again, unlike some other programs that are underachieving to average who will have a banner year once every 15 years. Watching a little bit of last night's Summit game has me excited to see what Saul will do in the coming years, once he has his blueprint in full swing. The theories behind the RPI are nothing like the "power rankings", which I agree are complete nonsense. RPI isn't everything, but it's a solid indicator of how good a team really is.
