Fantastic article - most I knew but quite a bit I did not. Thanks for posting.

Growing up in the lore of Indiana basketball ...there is always a reverent quietness that comes when my dad or anyone who was playing or following hoops at the time says...."Attucks". Almost eerie...it is palpable and you can tell the guys who were truly engaged and those that came later or just heard about it rather than experienced seeing them live. Those that saw were changed, truly. I remember the first time I met the grandfather of a 6 '11 patient. I asked if he had played. He said "yes, Attucks". I remember being in awe and fighting back tears as I just felt in the presence of greatness.

If you follow hoops you will find those schools all over, Dayton Dunbar, Baltimore, CHicago. In that period all balck schools were established under seperate but equal. They had some of the brightest minds teaching there and some of the best coaches as those folk could not work in white high schools. Amazing story that is echoed in many places. Indy was fortunate to have a reporter who called them like he saw them.

Bobby Plump hit the winning shot vs Muncie Central that became the movie "hoosiers" to put that part of the article in context. Had they not beat Attucks in the semis there would be no "hoosiers".

I think I mentioned this a while back but I'm surprised they glossed over that game in Hoosiers. I know the movie is just based on Milan but the fact that they beat a team with one of the greatest players ever to walk the planet seems to me to be a Hollywood script unto itself. How do you not work that into the story?

Have to give a lot of credit to Collins for doing what he did in Indiana. From what I understand, the KKK in Indiana at this time was as bad, if not worse, than it was in the deep south. Like Dean Smith, Collins fought the good fight.
