Excited, because I'm there! It's my house divided game. My wife is a WMU nursing grad. I'm going to angle hard to get my 8-year-old in green as the tiebreaker.

Western is something of a mystery team for me this year. At 15-10, 6-6 , they have to be considered as under-achieving this season after the good year in 2014? I have not seen them play a full game this year so I don't really have a good grasp on what is going on up there in the -Zoo. Has anyone taken a good look at the Bronco's this year and willing to give us a quick scouting report ?

I don't know where "over" is from, Eagle, but I have a left-field request for the board. Is anyone coming up who might be in Athens or have access to apparel? All my stuff is old, shrunken, and faded. The irony is that I'll be in Athens for the first time in four years a week from Thursday and plan on stocking up, but one week too late.

If anyone thinks he could hook me up with a Men's XXL (or even XXXL if they shrink) and a youth large, I could reimburse you at the game.

I know this is last minute and random so no expectations, just thought I'd throw it out there.

Edit: I do have a jersey, but I don't know if I'm ready to be that guy!

Try ordering from the College Book Store and ask if they would do rush delivery.
At least you would have a choice to which to chose from.

Looking at the schedule, I don't see a lot of winnable games left. Actually, this one may be our second best shot to win another game until the season ends. Hope we see a good effort and a W, but I am pessimistically expecting another L.

I am with you on this one. We've beat good teams (Akron, Buffalo, EMU). I imagine we've got a surprise or two left.

Kent State, BGSU, and Miami left at home - Bobcats probably win two of those.

Western, Akron, and Buffalo on the road. Woo, that's a tough slate... Would be happy if we just didn't get swept there, honestly.

Not exactly what I expected but this is the word from the inside

Not sure they have the same view we do.

New to the MAC but not Hawk.

Though OU has struggled they have pieces that remind me of NDSU Phillip's last stint. They only lack a stout big inside who physically moves people around and demanded defensive attention.

The primary difference is alchemy. OU has some who are on their 3rd header in their career in Athens. So it isn't surprising that this group has struggled some. I don't believe anyone of significant contribution is a Phillips recruit. Certainly not a difference maker.

What isn't different is Phillip's knows Hawk and has had success. Hawk is predictable so Phillip's doesn't have to have a crash course. When Phillips gets his own kids OU will be very good. NDSU certainly was I don't think OU will lack in being able to draw talent,

The "two pieces" that are a concern are N'dour and Willis. If N'dour had decent mate in the pivot he'd wreak havoc. But he lacks strength and often is pitted against those who are stronger and heftier. Offensively he can pull them out but you'd prefer him shooting J's then slicing into, flashing across or diving down the lane. He will pose issues for Drake and Kellen. If Hawk counters with AJ and Mario then N'dour goes downstairs where his length, quickness and hops will negate their change of pace from Lamont and Kellen.

The other piece is Bean T Willis. Only 6' very athletic and can score. He is DB with some giddy up. That giddy up also allows him to turn the corner, attack the rim and put pressure on the D to react. We all know that and rebounding have been WMU's Achilles heel. But in addition to that Bean can drain 3's in bunches. Close out too slow, BAM. Over react? Raise the chin, show the ball and the defender straightens up, BAM, he goes right by you.

If WMU can keep these two in check and not allow someone else to have a career night all they have to do is execute their O making OU defend and WMU should walk away with a 5+ pt win.

God, I hope this team doesn't remind anybody of any of Phillips' previous teams. He looks like he possesses a little knowledge of our team but not a lot. I wouldn't call Bean "very athletic." He's fast and can jump a little but he has almost no lateral quickness. He also mistakes lack of production from the interior for a lack of talent in the interior. It strikes me as someone looking at a stat sheet and maybe seeing us play a time or two but not really paying attention.

I mean his overview is pretty accurate when those two are clicking but the problem is they haven't been able to click very often this season.

If you're making the trip, Eagle66, try to meet up with intrpdtrvlr at one of his favorite haunts -- Nisker's. Good eats and good company. He reminded me of the name, but I didn't forget the place. Endorsed by Bornacatfan, too.

Go, Bobcats. Steal one on the road!

Clicking implies working together which they don't do. Either Bean is hitting his shots or he's not. And Mo has to completely rely on matchups since he never receives a pass to the interior. For the same reason our Bronco Insider doesn't think Tony Campbell is a viable interior presence. Here is an accurate write up of our team:

Bean Willis is the key to the Bobcats winning. The reason for this is that he can be unconscious shooting and if he can maintain this for an entire game the Bobcats have a shot at winning. Unfortunately for the Bobcats this rarely happens. Most games he'll have a very hot 5 minute stretch where he'll toss in three threes to either put the Bobcats ahead or get them back in the game. The casual observer will look at the boxscore and think that Bean had a good game because he put up 17 with 4 assists. Never mind that his assists are rarely "real" assists. Never mind that in a one point game he missed forced shots on four straight possessions and played ole' defense on the other end. Why aren't other players a bigger factor on the offensive end? Is it a lack of talent? No, it's because the ball is in Bean's hands 90% of every offensive possession and if he can find a shot to take, and mind you it doesn't have to be a good one, he's going to take it. It matters not that if Tony Campbell gets the ball within 10 feet of the hoop he's going to score because when the ball is in Bean's hands he's not even aware that Tony is on the court. It matters not that Tony is working his tail off and has flashed open near the hoop three times on this possession. Tony is only going to get the ball if he wanders out to the three point line. Since that is the only time he gets it casual observers think he spends his entire time out there and shoots too many threes. Never mind that he is the team's best shooter behind the arc. Maurice Ndour is in a similar boat as Tony. He is more adept at creating his own shot however but his attempts at this lead to a large number of turnovers. Much like Campbell his hard work down low is rarely rewarded unless Treg Setty or Ryan Taylor happen to be on the court and actually have the ball in their hands. It's hard to say how good the rest of the supporting cast can be since they also must rely on creating their own shots. Unfortunately the selfishness with the ball has trickled down to the rest of the team because they think that if they pass it it will never work it's way back to them on that possession.

Just imagine a world where a point guard recognizes the mismatch that Mo has for five seconds down low. Just imagine a world where quick ball reversal leads to an open slash by Mike Laster against a defense that is out of position because of the quick passing. Just imagine a drive and kick out to a wide open Ryan Taylor on the wing. Can you see it? Can you see it? Now imagine it's 2016.

Good stuff Van.

I remember a post early in DJ's career at Ohio that in high school he was a shooter and not a feeder. But he had great vision on the floor and understood the role of a point guard at the D1 level. And I'm sure Groce and the staff worked with him a lot. Bean's primary role last year was to spell Nick. Now he's at point guard, which is not a good fit for him.

Smart teams will pressure us for 40 minutes (or more) every game to take advantage of the lack (absence?) of floor leadership.

We will get by.
We will get by.
We will get by.
We will survive.

Go, Bobcats. Steal one on the road!

Borna has been there too? Awesome. Yeah, it is an absolute favorite of mine and my family's. Two years ago, we had a Bobcat invasion for lunch before the WMU game and it was a strong showing. I'm not saying the team won on the road that day because a dozen of its supporters ate at Niskers but it could not have hurt.

Bean can turn the corner, attack the rim and put pressure on the D to react? Did I miss that the one time it happened?

I guess "can" doesn't mean "does."

Or listen to the Men's game and watch a couple other compelling in state games:

UC vs Xavier
Arkon vs Toledo
