I was in Carroll today and lo and behold they have started utility work on the Carroll interchange. Work is scheduled to be completed in 2017 and when it is, there won't be that light by the McDonald's that backs traffic up big time during rush hour. That ought to make the commute from Columbus for Wednesday night basketball games that much easier for many of you.

Since I have been heading to lancaster on a biweekly basis since 09 I will be happy. That back up on a friday night even as late as 8 or 9 is insane. Like the nelsonville bypass it wiil probably be finished months after I no longer have a reason to go that way...

Anyway...I am happy for any reason that makes it easier for the fanbase to get in the car.

I wasn't aware this was planned, but it is very good news. I hate the light.

Used to drive from Columbus for many years. Now, I don't hit 33 until Lancaster, coming from Newark. Would love to see the state get rid of the traffic light on 33 at Sugar Grove, between Lancaster and Logan. Always asking myself, is it necessary?

A few months ago going through there I watched a pair of motorcyclists nearly die. We were in the passing lane going through that light, it was green from a distance so we were traveling highway speeds, two motorcycles beside us. A truck was basically parked in the right lane at the light, not moving, maybe broken down. The motorcycles did a fast, dangerous looking split around the non-moving truck. I saw this unfold in the rear view mirror and thought I was about to watch someone get killed.

I always thought that traffic light at sugar grove was a big Eff You from Lancaster because it went in right after the bypass was completed.

My guess is that the light at Sugar Grove is to accommodate all of the traffic that crosses 33 going to Berne Union High School.

Thanks for sharing. That will knock another 5 minutes off the drive, moving it ever closer to an even hour from point to point.

It's eventually all going to be total freeway, right?

To be able to make it total freeway, there are a number of intersections that will need addressed in between the two bypasses, and near Athens.

That's the plan. The key word in your statement is "eventually."

A round-a-bout in the middle of US-33?

That is awesome. I had heard/read that it was future plans, but nothing like 2017. I thought it to be future with no date scheduled.

5 minutes? MANY times w/heavy traffic especially weekdays - it could cut at least 10-12 minutes off for me!

Oh, on weeknights, I agree, it's more like 10 minutes. On a Saturday at around 10am, I'm guessing it's 5 minutes or less .

ODOT District 10 is obsessed with them, so you never know. They put the one on (now) old 33 in Nelsonville literally because they had money left over and they could, and the 33/664 exit in Logan is now a double roundabout. And of course 682/Richland was the first one.

Clearly I say this in jest, but they definitely love to use them now.

Good riddance to all the intersections period. Saturday afternoon, I watched a WalMart driver lock up his brakes and fishtail to avoid a car stuck dead in the middle of one of those intersections.

Whatta ya gonna do? Can't chance getting out to push. Can't sit in it to try to get it started. There's going to be an accident, so if it's my car, I'm just running away.

Rt.33 has always been a huge topic for me. I well remember when Rt. 33 from Lancaster to Columbus was completed as a 4-lane divided highway all the way up to I-70. This was in the late 60's or so. At the time we all said that you could now drive non-stop from Lancaster to Denver, or maybe even the West Coast.

Then the village of Carroll complained about access to the highway and got the first traffic light put up in the early 70's. At that time, our State Representative promised every one who expressed their concerns about compromising the new non-stop highway that the light was just a "temporary" solution.

Then with Carroll getting their own personal traffic light, soon everyone else up the highway pushed to get their own personal lights, also. Political power really works. The worst lights were at Canal Winchester and Groveport. Three different traffic lights were installed along that stretch of Rt. 33 within one mile and eyesight of interchanges that could easily have been used by the locals. Yet the locals wanted even more convenience. The funny thing was that a majority of those cars entering the highway at these lights immediately turned toward Columbus and only one minute later was driving right through the same interchange they easily could have used if there wasn't a traffic light on Rt.33. The absolute worst case was Wendy's getting their own personal traffic light on the highway at Canal Winchester. Because of all of these traffic lights, travel between Lancaster and Columbus was unnecessarily backed-up and irritating for several decades.

Rt. 33 is a Federal highway and the major highway connecting Columbus to West Virginia and I-77. Logic would say that such a highway would most certainly be a 4-lane divided limited-access non-stop highway from I-70 to I-77.

Fortunately, somewhere along the line the political climate changed a few years ago and logical people are getting things straightened around. It has taken a long time, but we are now within 3 or 4 lights from being non-stop from the north suburbs of Columbus all the way to the Convo. That should be a huge thing for enticing Bobcat fans to make the trip from the Columbus area.

The light at Sugar Grove is for school buses serving Berne Union.

The funny thing is that both the Carroll light and the Sugar Grove light could easily have been eliminated as part of the Lancaster bypass project. Both locations are just a short distance from the beginning and ending of that project.

Is there any talk of an interchange at the light by The Plains or is it just "eventually" thing.

That one doesn't back up like the ones up north do and doesn't feel terribly unsafe.

I've seen crazier things happen.
