Official attendance tonight was 837, but Alan said there were no more than 225 in the building. If nobody saw the game live, and it wasn't available on espn3, did the game really happen?

Bobcats weren't the only ones that didn't show up tonight. Subtract the 13 players and coaches from that total because Bobcats never got off the bus.

No the game did not occur. I'm in total denial and refuse to admit that what my memory tells me my eyes saw is actually a fact. Sometimes living in a fantasy world is very helpful for your mental health. Don't believe me? Try it sometime. ;-)

that is over 500 more than the night I was there and that number that night was highly overstated

How does the culture of the students, faculty, and local community change so much that they can't get 2k to come to that arena to watch a team that since Murphy has been there is a solid team?

Add to that though, how in the heck to they recruit kids to this kind of environment and atmosphere?

IIRC most of those are area kids that transferred back in from somewhere else and Jucos that had no better offers. Talented kids to be sure but not of character. Some other thread earlier in the year I stated this fanbase would be bonkers if we put a team in the COnvo in the same manner

I'd agree, that's not what I'd want. In the long run, it's more enjoyable to see three or four year kids play.

It must be sad for their small handful of diehards. EMU has a lot of the problems that many MAC schools face, except they're all worse at EMU.

It's a former normal school (teaching college) like all the directionals, Kent, BGSU, Balls, and NIU. These institutions aren't necessarily worse off academically, but they started uniquely focused on teaching and many still churn out a lot of teachers. Teachers don't make a ton of money or donate a lot to things like athletics.

Like all of the MAC, EMU is in the shadow of the Big Ten, but it's literal in Ypsilanti. Ann Arbor is a not unreasonable jog from EMU's athletic complex.

Like many MAC schools, EMU is not the first academic choice for most attendees. If they had the money, grades, etc. they'd be somewhere else. Worse still, they have a lot of commuter and non-traditional students. Hard to feel a lot of school spirit when you're just there for the sheepskin.

I don't like slamming EMU and I don't think it's helpful. I've been to Ypsi a couple of times, and I like it there. The facilities are great, they have a couple cool bars and the people are friendly. I feel for them. All that said, I see no real hope for them when it comes to attendance. I really think EMU will never have decent numbers of fans and no amount of winning will change that.

Have you taken a good look at our roster lately??? Our program currently has 5 transfers from D-1 schools (Texas Tech, Michigan State, Houston, Southern Illinois, and Grambling State) with two sitting out and our best player (Ndour) is a JUCO transfer.

But, going forward we'll be at least 8 guys who are 4-yr high school recruits + two guys that are three year transfers. Also, we'll be at least 8 guys that were recruited by Saul & staff.

It's always been that way. I remember playing at their old field house in the late 70's to less than 100 people. It was like playing a scrimmage. Then a few years later in 1982 when I moved to Ann Arbor after graduation, I attended a Bobcat-EMU football game played to less than 100 people.

And yet for all their problems, they still beat our arse by 36 points. Not a good time to be putting them down.

Actually, for the topic at hand it is the perfect time to put them down...Because their team had a very nice enjoyable victory, and no one was there to see it.

That was my impression. I'm sure someone here can give us the exact game-by-game attendance.

Also, I thought they had good attendance back when this guy played:

Not at all about making me feel better about the loss, just startling how poor their fan support is...and even more startling in victory than in defeat. That's all.

And the 837 claimed by EMU is nine more than their season average. That's really sad. But it's not unexpected, given their football attendance.

The women bobcats had 1828 tonight for the McD's give away and $2 tickets game tonight. Maybe EMU should give away some free McDonalds before the game?

EMU topped 1,000 today v. wmu. Had to call in extra ticket takers and concession stand workers.

The traffic jam getting into their convocation center must've been horrendous.

Back when they were in their old field house which seated about 4000, they had some stretches of years where they drew really well. I was there personally for a sold out game vs. Trent and the Bobcats...the game where Boals blew out his knee.

Ironically, their attendance dropped off right when they built their new arena. Amazing.
