The game has been over for more than an hour and there hasn't been one single post, good or bad, about it.

Ok here's one.

Saul coached the last 2 minutes like he took the 9 points. He sure didn't want to put them on the FT stripe. Some of the oddest coaching I've seen in some time. I guess it's great that they covered but he really gave them next to no chance of pulling this game out.

Not too uncommon for Saturday afternoons.

Not a terrible showing, but the disparity in FT shooting was really the only thing that kept us in it. We were just outplayed as per usual. Still stubbornly sticking to the same 8 man rotation after the debacle at EMU was an interesting move.

Campbell foul trouble hurt again. Ndour with only 5 shots, and 3 of them from behind the arc? Come on!!!

Still sucky from 3 point land, and even suckier at creating assists and avoiding turnovers.

Good effort, but there wasn't a lot of playmaking today. Seems like they were trying to play one-on-one instead of five-on-five. Six assists on 24 made FGs and only nine TOs by CMU. Loved the D pressure in the 2nd half. Need to have more of that. When his teams were in a funk Groce always turned up the D and it really helped. We have three home games coming up and need three wins or even getting a home game for the first round of the MAC tourney may be out of reach. We're back in last place in the East.

Actually missed Reghi on the ESPN broadcast. The guys doing the game were awful. Half the time, Antonio Cam-BELL was on the floor and they called us Buffalo at least once. They didn't do any homework beyond last Tuesday's game.

What did you guys and gals think of Ndour's attempt to take it coast-to-coast in the second half?

Sometimes I think he tries to do too much. Granted, he HAD to carry the team last week vs. Buffalo. But today they had him double-teamed and I think he was frustrated. He was out of control once he got into the paint. Trouble is, I don't think there was anybody to dish to.

It is sad that going into every game I feel like we're going to lose. Last year I felt like we could win every game or at least had a chance and optimism for every game. The last few weeks I've felt like we are going to lose every time we step onto the court. I guess that's what made the Buffalo win a game that saw me screaming around my house. It was a shocker to me. Maybe this year will provide a few of those and I can survive off of them. I just know that next year, with Kaminski and Simmons feeding Tony and Ryan Taylor we're going to be rejuvenated so the Centrals and Easterns and Northerns of the world should enjoy it now.

time of game is a factor here. anyone at the game has a long-ass drive home and anyone watching at home has already put off dinner long enough.

And the coup de grace may have been when they put up a graphic with four names of transfers on Ohio's roster...three of them brought in by Jim Christian...but the play by play guy said Saul brought them all in and is trying to build his roster with transfers and jucos.

On the whole though, they were complimentary of Ohio and the tradition.

The problem was the team right off the first couple of trips down the floor jacked up a three very early in the shot clock. I don't understand why we have Campbell and Ndour shoot a bunch of threes early in the game instead of pounding it inside to them. We have one of the better frontlines in the MAC, but the coach has them handing out on the three point line taking a jumper and giving up zero chance at a rebound. When we work the ball inside we can either score or get fouled. We have falling in love with the three ball. Saul might have a better shooting squad next year, but the strength of this team is Ndour and Campbell inside on the block. Both N'Dour and Campbell should be parading to the free throw line from the opening tip and getting the team into the bonus where guys like Willis,Laster and the Taylors can attack the rim. DJ Cooper and Offutt were relentless once we got into the bonus. This current team wasted the first ten minutes of the game settling for jumpers instead of attacking the rim. When you are not a great shooting team you must attack the rim and get your points at the line. The scoring was more balanced as the team got some contributions from more players. Hope guys like Laster and Ryan Taylor build off this game and take a little pressure off Ndour and Willis. How does Stevie Taylor not make a wide open layup as a division I college player. We could have cut it to four if he doesn't blow that layup in the first half. We were starting to make run at them and he absolute blew that layup. Stuffed by the rim. Just total lack of concentration.

I've found that if Russ's radio call is ahead of the video game feed, that I can use the ohio portal (ohiobobcats.com) feed for the audio and pause the audio until the video catches up. I had it almost perfectly synced with the ESPN3 feed today. - This (pausing the audio) will not work with the Power 105 app.

Sounds like same old same old. One on one play, poor shooting, turnovers by us and steals by opponents. And, if the players haven't already packed it in it sounds like the coach has. Did I say basically no assists? SAD is a polite way of putting it IMHO.

Casper, as I told you on the football forum, "wait until next year." ;-) In both cases -- for much different reasons -- this is a rebuilding year in both of our major men's sports. The women, however, are burning up the hardwood. I'm going to try to attend a few of their games before the season ends.

Very frustrating. You saw the turnover bound to happen, and yet he still tried to take it the length of the floor and not pass to a more sure handed dribbler. That was one missed opportunity for points that we could have really used. And I'm not going to give him too much grief, because that wasted possession was topped off by seemingly a half dozen missed layups. Just taking really crappy care of the basketball today.

It'd be one thing if we were a TOS team playing Kansas in the Sprint Center where there really was zero chance of winning and we were outmatched in every aspect of the game. But our losses this year haven't been that. They're all missed opportunities because we're not playing to the level that we are able. That's the frustrating part to me. I know we're better than this, we can do better than this, but we don't.

Agree mcbin. That's why I asked. I wondered if anyone else saw that as very poor judgement. Ndour loses his dribble all the time and is careless with the ball. In this game, he dribbled it off his foot out of bounds at one point. He also has very "soft hands." People are always knocking the ball away from him. That being said, he's one of our best players and can be really dominate if he's playing his game. I'm not sure if the major problem is that, as coaches sometimes say, he's not "playing within himself." Or, if our coaching strategy is just not giving him enough opportunities to to play down low. I realize that the double teams he's constantly facing make it difficult for him to be as effective in the paint as he otherwise could be, however, why aren't we then getting the ball better to the open player? While I'm not the astutest basketball theoretician to ever come down the pike, I do know that if player A is double teamed, either player B, C, D or E is open. ;-)

The box score was surprising to me, it looks like we were more competitive than I thought we were just from watching the game. We beat them on the boards and out shot them from the foul line and inside the arc but they were more prolific from 3, although not much better, percentage wise. Large variance in turnovers and assists were key factors.

Free Throws
16-19 OU
11-19 CMU

2pt shooting
19-33 OU
15-35 CMU

3pt shooting
5-18(27.8%) OU
11-31(35.5%) CMU

Reb
34 OU
28 CMU

Assists
6 OU
12 CMU

TOs
16 OU
9 CMU

You won't be disappointed. At Central Saturday, women played a talented, bigger team who were able to score underneath, and their star Bradford had a big game from outside. Yet OHIO survives.

Lesson for the men: Boldon not pleased with the defense and happy they have a week off for some serious practice. They're 18-3 (7-1) and it's time for improvement. Losing is not an option.

Really does seem that Saul has lost this team. Will be interesting to see what he does next year as the majority of the guys on roster are guys he brought in.

Looking forward to seeing a fresh set of new guards at the point. The ones we have right now aren't interested in team basketball. More concerned about jacking up wild 3's and showboating.

Sitting with Saul and talking I do not think he has "lost the team". I really think he is in a position where it is more like herding wild cats. He is keeping them moving in the same direction the best he can but no one is overtly off the reservation or doing things that are subversive or undermining the entire operation. He is doing a great job getting this thing to the finish while keeping his guys and the recruits pointed in the direction he wants to go. Like someone greased the tightwire and he is walking cautiously one step at a time.

+1

I'll buy into this...especially from someone who can get insight directly from the man himself.

Coach Phillips can say all he wants that he has this team but actions speak louder than words. Of course he's going to say that he hasn't lost this team. But Bean, Mo, Stevie and even Tony at times look like they're done with Bobcat Pride. Even Ryan Taylor looks disinterested. We need some leadership and no one is there to do it. I'm sure Saul will get it next year. I feel like he's lost this team. Why does he continue to play Bean? I would yank him after one ill-advised shot. Stevie, he's out for Reggie Williams after the missed layup. Tony? If he's launching 3's I'm taking him out for Treg. How about Mo thinking he's a guard? Get him out and put Chandler in. I'd rather see those guys playing hard then losing by 5 with our headcases in.

You would bench a guy for shooting threes even though his effective FG% on threes is .563? If you don't let him shoot threes he might as well be a piece of furniture since Bean rarely looks to get him the ball down low.
