I have always been interested in the academic side. I remember being told at AAU/summer ball tourneys by OUr coaches "we can't get him in" going back to prop 48 times. They would lament because a kid would end up at BG or Akron that they liked but would not make it with admissions

I bring this up because one of our Indiana Kids just committed to Ohio State. We was a Louisville commit then decommitted, transferred to Huntington Prep from Evansville and reclassified to the next year, committed to Oregon then was denied admission and is now at IMG (where Kyryl went) and now has committed to tO$U.

So the question is how do we compare to admission standards? Are the ones at OHIO still on par or higher. Did tO$U lower theirs. I had someone tell me yesterday that STATE is much higher than it was in 05 when I was talking about. Is Akron and BG still able to get kids in that would need to be passed over.? As I speak to players in grade school and HS I always talk about grades. I ask them what do you think the recruiter is going to ask. "I dunno, how good are you?" Nope son he can read that in the paper. He is going to ask you how your schoolwork is. He can't play you if he can't get you on the court.

never argue with idiots, they bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

If Ohio State had standards they wouldn't be where they are. None of the big boys would.

I'm not sure how much they bend things for athletes, but general admission standards at OSU have significantly risen over the years. I have seen recent reports that have their average GPA and ACT scores of incoming Freshman at the same level as OU and Miami. It is becoming a lot more difficult to get in to OSU. When I applied to OU in 1991, OSU was automatic admission to just about any Ohio resident with a pulse. It is no longer the state backup plan.

I think as the links borna show, Ohio State typically is harder to get into than Ohio and is pretty well on par with Miami. A lot of those who don't get into Ohio State's main campus, though, go to one of the branch campuses first and finish at the main campus.

There is still an Ohio state law that says, in essence, that any Ohio high school graduate has to be admitted to any Ohio state college or university. For years, schools have gotten around this rule by saying something like, "Sorry, kid, we can't admit you for the fall semester (quarter), but you can come the next term, or you need to first enroll at a branch campus, etc." I'm not sure that this complies with the letter of the law, but I'm unaware that the practice has ever been challenged either. I'm sure there is someone on this board who knows more about this than I do. In fact, I vaguely remember a previous thread on the topic. I do remember checking with an attorney friend of mine a few years ago and he checked and said the law is still on the books.

I wonder how the public ivy in Oxford feels about having lower admission standards than damn near the entire Sun Belt Conference.
