He has that little hook shot in the paint that is not defendable. Made one left handed yesterday.I can't imagine how many hours he spent in the gym perfecting that shot.
Nice to think about his development and the future contributions.

Agree, Ytown. However, too often, TC (as well as Mo, Wadly) is out on the perimeter instead of fighting for position down low. I know, it's a different coaching philosophy, but where are their strengths? Especially v. a team with little size like Belmont?

Case in point was one possession late in the Belmont game. NDour, beyond the arc left side, threw a pass across the court to TC, beyond the arc right side. You have size mismatches down low, take advantage of them. If the opponent double or triple teams you down low, like Belmont was doing with Mo, exploit that.

That may have been a response to Belmont's defensive philosophy, which was really disrupting us whenever we got the ball down low.

Nice game today. Great around the basket. Double double against The Bonnies.

Wondering why he continues to come off the bench? He was the Cats MVP today with 14 and 14. Wadley was 0 for 0 with 2 boards!

seems obvious its to let Wadley handle the opening jump ball.

I'd let Ryan Taylor handle that. Can you imagine knowing you're in there to jump center only to be pulled out in the first two minutes.

you'd put a 6'5" guard on the jump ball? Yes, I can imagine knowing that I'm in there to jump center only to be be pulled out in the first two minutes because I understand that basketball is a team sport and everybody on the team has a role to play. I would also understand that through 5 games I have already played more minutes than I did all of last year so it hardly seems reasonable for me to complain about being a starter who gets subbed early.

But that's just me.

Is the jump ball really that important?

Is a steal? A turnover?

Are you suggesting the jump ball is equivalent to those things? The possession arrow more or less balances out the jump ball.

Mo has to be able to jump higher than anyone in the team.

Barberton used to have Carter Scott jump ball center to start the game. Ryan Taylor has the same sort of explosiveness and length. As for a team sport, there are very few colleges where that is true. Many of these guys were all stars and have carried that mentality to college. Were you at the game today.

I love that you called someone clueless, then cited Barberton Freaking High School as relevant to the discussion.

It was long before you were born Dragon. The tallest guy on the court isn't necessarily the best person to jump center. A quick leaper with long arms tends to work best. Carter Scott was that type of guy.

This discussion is based on the assumption that Wadly is indeed starting in am attempt to try to win the opening tip. We don't know that's true.

Good point. It may be an attempt to get him minutes on a regular basis and the esteem of being a starter. Get a positive vibe going to help spur his development, etc, etc.

Ryan Taylor jumping over Wadly.

Right.

I've seen crazier things happen.

If you've been in the Convo and seen Taylor jump, it's not hard to imagine. Regardless and as Jeff said, it's a stretch to believe he starts only for the first tip.
